before I watched the WJC and even during it at some points I liked Puuljarvi more, but I think Laine shot separated them for me. I kinda like the idea of Tkachuk though. The idea of him at LW on a line with JV gives me a bit of a hockey boner. Laine's LW too and I just see that as more of the need spot than RW, but maybe I'm making too much out of it. I'll be pretty happy if we get any top 5 that's for sure (i'm sure you guys are shocked).

that's the problem.. everyone puts too much stock in WJC.. hence, tryamkin. watch them play against men and they dont have the same shine

worlds are still a collection of the best talent...so it shows how they compare against other great talents in the world, much like the nhl would be.

But yes playing against 30 yr old fully grown men could be a challenge when youre 18

Here we go.

- As_I_See_It

Well, I see Try as a Colossal Greatsword swinging type of player. That is 8 x 6 sided dice of damage potential damage of 48 per blow, now the weight doesn't matter because he is wielding it 2 handed. I don't see him as the type to have any special building materials or spells attached to it

Greatsword

Martial Two-Handed Melee

Size Damage Weight

Fine * 1d4 *
Diminutive * 1d6 *
Tiny * 1d8 *
Small 1d10 4 lb.
Medium 2d6 8 lb.
Large 3d6 16 lb.
Huge * 4d6 *
Gargantuan * 6d6 *
Colossal * 8d6 *

Now doughty is more of a speed character.
I can see him using a modified scimitar, perhaps with a speed/dexterity bonu

Damage Weight

Fine 1 *
Diminutive 1d2 *
Tiny 1d3 *
Small 1d4 2 lb.
Medium 1d6 4 lb.
Large 1d8 8 lb.
Huge 2d6 *
Gargantuan 3d6 *
Colossal 4d6 *

I'll give doughty a +5 speed bonus and a x2 dexterity modifier

Even this would allow him to land say 4 blows per receiving one and allowing for a higher rate of critical hits due to said dexterity, lets say a 1.2 multiplier, doughty would be landing (4d6)x 1.2 with a max hit per second of 28.8 and a minimum hit rate of 4.8 per second

This compares to Tryamkin landing 1 blow per second with a max damage of 48 and a min. damage of 8

Obviously Doughty would dodge more blows, lets say 0.66 land on him compared to Try.....
Even this however would be offset by Tryamkin higher hp.

I'm gonna have to go out on a limb here and declare Try the winner, mostly due to his sword.... I mean obviously if he was using a diminutive great sword(as illustrated by that graph) he would only be landing 1-6 points of damage per second.

Well.... that was more effort then necessary.... my vaporizer is empty... I need to reload....

Oh and Dragon.... I win.... irrefutable proof from the D&D world that the sword matters as much or more then the coach.

EDIT;
Son!

What exactly do you have against this prospect? All you have contributed on the matter is a link in Russian that simply stated he had been released from his contract due to his request

I too also have a hard time seeing this giant at 6'7.5 and 255 lbs (his 230 was from WJC and not current. Khl has him at 255) having trouble competing against men.

He is also playing on a smaller ice surface...it will be pretty tough for anybody to get around his reach. I've played against a 6'7 defender who is mobile and its devasting trying get around. He should be a solid bottom pairing physical Dman and who knows what his ceiling is.

Not to mention, most of the players he's played against in the KHL are all men who have played in the AHL/NHL or other professional leagues in Europe. It's not like he's playing against kids his own age. Notwithstanding the fact that most in the know consider the KHL/SEL to be a slight step below the AHL in terms of speed/skill/physical play. I don't doubt he'll have a bit of a period where as he transitions to the NHL style of play and speed that he gets exposed like Hutton was earlier this season, but he's going to have an easier time since he's already had professional experience. Communication with his teammates will likely be his biggest problem on and off the ice at least at first.

Ah, with a cold beer and a warm bowl, my friend,
wryly smiling as I gaze at the world, through this, this miracle
that allows me to reach and to bend,
these worlds are my playground,
Dictated like reality as it sets in,
This fantasy land that I believe has been found!

Eyes downcast, the snubbed fan lurks
on boards of hockey pointing fingers at trolls and jerks
Justifying his actions , imitating others as they twitch
in response to trolls, we female dog and snitch
our teams loses pile up, hysteria sets in,
Nuckers lay back in philly and smirks
team draft sets up the circle and jerks
The hole to hide my head has become a ditch
Shades of 2011 made me this despicable litch

This is my fantasy land, as it is fantasy land of others
but behind our team, we are all brothers
So come to my land, here on the coast
Enter my fantasy, recieve my toast
Now we're not last, remember once we were most
Laugh at the leaf, who surely would boast

Now, leave me beaming at my demons in this bowl,
Gazing at glowing embers in this hole,
No fear or compassion, my heart darkened as coal,
No shown weakness, for the bleakness of despair is for the meakest.

My life, my fantasy, my rules
all who oppose me, are fools
fall before the sharpness in duels
of a mindscape of coaches and pools

In darkened bleakness, creaking joints pour spindely fingers over keys, dimly lite I hunch away from my firewood pile, annoyed at my team, spoiling my dream,
of a cup in my lifetime or yours.
I'm done, out now....OK..Cool?

if larson and pedan are on the team that may not be a problem at all.

most of my russian friends also tell me they take english in school so its not like he cant understand any of it.

I do wonder about the skill level and speed of khl... russians are known for both and the national teams at all levels are extremely skilled. Usually russians are absolute snipers and fast. So Im not so sure about the comparison to AHL. Perhaps though the compete level isnt that high??

As I understand it, the speed of the game is professional level (ECHL/AHL (varies based on team by team basis)) skill is maybe slightly higher then AHL but not quite NHL class. The physicality is definitely not there, so yeah, there's that. They play mostly with international rules so physical play is mostly frowned upon and KHL players can't get away with what players in the NA leagues could get away with.

Virtanen did well in front of the net with Doughty. I get you need to play a 200' game, and can't turn the puck over. However JV has that element this team desperately needs. Well done.

So just to get this straight:

The T.J. Hensick and Blair Jones were swapped between Charlotte and Utica. The Canucks maintain Jones' rights and Hensick remains property of the Hurricanes.

Dane Fox, however, was traded outright by the Canucks to the Hurricanes for Future Considerations. The Hurricanes get his rights.

Okay.

Yeah, sure, I guess?

I mean, we got something, I guess, but I'm not sure it's a necessary trade for anybody except maybe Fox himself.
