So I take it that the majority of flyers fans aren't pulling for him?
- dprice818

No one has any ill will towards him. But he's not Kimmo -- most Flyer fans have nothing emotionally invested in him. His time here was a disappointing mess. He's a good guy and was a good sport in a trying situation, and it's certainly nice to see Vinny in greener pastures. But mostly we're just glad the Flyers are out from that awful contract.

I wish nothing but the best for him, but I'm not closely watching rooting for him like we were for Kimmo last year when we traded him to Hawks. Think that has to do with the lack of contribution to our team which isn't his fault since he was scratched more often than not. We were just thankfull he's gone and moved on with our lives to find something else to complain about.

I think a majority of Flyers fans are actually pulling for him. He could've made that situation much worse than he did (he actually didnt make it bad at all). Any poking fun at him or hoping he does poorly is just because lots of people around the league were making it seem like he was this great player again and was just wasted in Philly, or the team wasn't good enough to support him. In other words, it is a little validation for fans to see that it wasn't the Flyers with the problem

Doesn't seem like it. He'll be 32 and probably wants $6m a year for five years.

I think Edmonton should go after him, especially if they end up moving RNH for a dman. This would be a strong center lineup.

Lot of respect if he keeps his word and retires after this year. He was in a bad situation, given a contract he never should have gotten, and isn't the same player he was. To be fair, he was given every opportunity to succeed here as Bill has posted before, a ridiculous amount of line combos and positions, and it didn't work. Poop happens. I wish him the best of luck and wouldn't mind seeing him win with the Kings, I'm a big fan of Quick and still like Carter, but SOOOOOOOOOOOO glad he's gone and off our books.

Probably would be smart. He's a born leader, a grizzled vet, and it helps that McDavid and Draisaitl are very good poss. players and Backes would slot in nicely as a support piece. Backes used to be a terrific possession player and ES scorer...but he has now two years in a row of decline in underlying stats. Now this year in scoring. It would not be a good contract objectively speaking, but I do think a team with lots of money to spend and in desperate need of veteran leadership could get good use of it, if that makes sense. I'd prefer to keep the years down though.

They need to find an answer on the back end. They would probably be smart to try and get harmonic.

If (the slightly overrated) RNH is traded, they can get a very good piece for the back end.

100% agree. This reminds me of one time when i saw this guy post the idea of trading Simmonds for Iginla back when we first got him...because we could use the vet leadership. But it was hilarious to me bc his reasoning was more about how Simmonds would appreciate and understand being traded for Iginla because they're both black and Simmonds probably looks up to him. So it would be respectful for him.

if they get matthews he is as good as gone. I presonally dont think I could trade RNH with the current team. it is easily their best piece though

F him. I hope he embarrasses himself in the playoffs. In fact I'm pretty sure he will. At the time of the deal vinny made it known that he would not retire next year if the flyers couldn't move him. If not for Lombardis help he'd be a flyer next year

The deal was great for both sides but especially great for the Flyers being tat Vinny is getting off the books next year as part of the deal. Vinny seems to be a good guy, he and Luke are working into the system nicely and it sounds like the guys that filled in for them are taking advantage of the opportunity and doing well. The perfect end of this story would be a cup for the Kings this year and a cup in the near future for the flyers.......gkg........gfg

I don't even think they need RNH currently. McDavid...he's McDavid. And Draisaitl is legitimately looking like a potential superstar. Shades of Crosby/Geno with that top 2 already. And RNH is no Jordan Staal -- he's a good player, and still very young, but his supposed strong 2-way game is really overhyped. They could find a 3C elsewhere and get something nice in return in the process.

If they got Matthews, I wonder if they'd trade the pick. It'd be ballsy, but I think it could make sense. They could and probably would roll McD/Austooon/Draistreudel until trading one of the non-McD's when contract troubles occur, but that just is overkill tbh. Especially for a team with severe d man issues. It'd be ballsy. Frankly, I wonder if they won any of the lottery picks if they'd trade down.

I still dont like the deal for the Kings, but they have always been a favorite (Flyers west). Hate to say it though...I am rooting for NSH and ANA in the west this year.

They could do a number of possible scenarios if they get #1 pick. If you have McDavid and Mathews, I think any of the other guys become expendable. Hell the Oilers could land the #1 and trade back to #3 and snag a dman finally while collecting nice assets for the trade
