I have no problem with that stance.

Me neither. I understand the human aspect if he had said to himself, Hockey is no longer fun. I've made a lot -- it's just not worth it anymore...I want to be with my family and call it quits.

And I understand the business decision that is, They signed me to that contract. I'm honoring it -- so should they. Why should I leave? I don't owe them any favors.

F him. I hope he embarrasses himself in the playoffs. In fact I'm pretty sure he will. At the time of the deal vinny made it known that he would not retire next year if the flyers couldn't move him. If not for Lombardis help he'd be a flyer next year

But is he really at fault for honoring a contract that was offered to him ?

I don't even think they need RNH currently. McDavid...he's McDavid. And Draisaitl is legitimately looking like a potential superstar. Shades of Crosby/Geno with that top 2 already. And RNH is no Jordan Staal -- he's a good player, and still very young, but his supposed strong 2-way game is really overhyped. They could find a 3C elsewhere and get something nice in return in the process.

If they got Matthews, I wonder if they'd trade the pick. It'd be ballsy, but I think it could make sense. They could and probably would roll McD/Austooon/Draistreudel until trading one of the non-McD's when contract troubles occur, but that just is overkill tbh. Especially for a team with severe d man issues. It'd be ballsy. Frankly, I wonder if they won any of the lottery picks if they'd trade down.

They could (and I would) play Draisitl at RW. He looked great there before he got injured. If they somehow got rid of Eberle/RNH/Yakupov for Pietrangelo/Trouba...hot damn

Without that tough stance, who's to say Hextall goes looking for a deal like he did instead of waiting Vinny out? Smart move on his part.

Sour grapes much? He said all along he just wanted to play hockey. You dont remember the months and months of people saying if he just wanted to play he could go to europe and all that nonsense.

He got a chance to play the season and traded the last two years of his contract in order to do that. That is exactly what a guy who just wanted to play would do. He said it all along and backed it up. Should be thankful he saved the Flyers salary cap in the process of it all?

They could do a number of possible scenarios if they get #1 pick. If you have McDavid and Mathews, I think any of the other guys become expendable. Hell the Oilers could land the #1 and trade back to #3 and snag a dman finally while collecting nice assets for the trade
- arichardson22

I've thought about this since I wrote my post:

Say they win the lottery. They could trade Matthews to a team like Winnipeg, who likely will draft top 6. Winnipeg trades Trouba and their 1st for Matthews. Maybe someone like Yakupov is thrown in. Trouba might top out as a 2/3. Then the Oilers draft a Chychrun/Juolevi. Then perhaps they trade RNH for a Hamonic or someone. Maybe they don't. Maybe they go HARD after someone like Demers in free agency. He has ties with McLellan.

Oilers could change their defense overnight.

I still dont like the deal for the Kings, but they have always been a favorite (Flyers west). Hate to say it though...I am rooting for NSH and ANA in the west this year.
- YuenglingJagr

It will great deal if the kings get a cup but if not, they are rentals anyway. Kings hands were tied on Weal. He was going to be put on waivers if this deal didn't happen. Weal didn't have a future in LA. Vinny is a steal at the what the Kings have to pay him this year.

I thought Draisaitl played mostly center. If they view him as a RW long term, then that changes things. His possession stats are fantastic though (his WoWY along with McDavid's are pretty pretty good)...he really makes his linemates better. His game seems well rounded enough to be a center. You watch more Oilers game than me apparently, so you tell me haha.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. I heard he is going to start riding the ponies at Santa Anita.

Schenn is a steal...Vinny is not. I understand the deal, but I think they couldve found better forward depth for cheaper. Could be worth the price they paid for Schenn though

Yeah it's really crazy how many blockbuster (guess you could call them that) trades they could make with what they have + getting a top draft pick this year. we could be looking at much better and different oilers team next year

Their WoWY charts show they've played 2 minutes together at ES all season. He's played almost exclusively with Hall (LW) and mostly with Purcell (RW). He's also played 80 minutes with RNH...I think that's who you're confusing McDavid with. And yeah, Draisaitl did well with him, but there is literally no one that Draisaitl doesn't improve their stats when playing with. It's very impressive. RNH's possession stats crater away from Leon. Leon's don't. I looked at his QoC, and he faces one of the highest on the team too: most minutes against includes Getzlaf, Kopitar, Monahan, Toews. Some big boys.

I am thankful. But what if nobody wanted him? I understand the leverage he had on saying that but maybe he wouldn't retire and just be ok rotting as a scratch? Not even willing to waive his Nmc to play hockey in the minors? We'll never know

I do hate him Bc he sucked so bad as a flyer. What's wrong with that?

Pretty food faceoff numbers for Drai, too, considering his age.

Kinda glad Tampa faces off against Boston tonight. It lets them get their pissed-off-big-next-game out of the way. And against a division rival who could leapfrog them in the standings with a win.
