minimal value is what he said, to paraphrase the month long pissing contest

special teams do little to alter the standings, their value is not what they were years ago.

so my response is every time the sabres lose a point or 2, or gain a point or 2 due to special teams, I will continue to beat the drum that special teams are one of the keys to winning a game

And for the record I've never disagreed that Special teams is certainly a component but as we have nearly a top 10 unit in both PK and PP and yet one of the worst even strength averages in the league I just strongly believe one is more important to working on right now

[Andrew Pulatarski (spelling?) 2nd in the NCAA in scoring and a Buffalo kid signed with Carolina. He was in Buffalo for the prospect camp. He's got decent size and very good speed - I'm surprised we didn't sign him?? Obviously we only have 50 spots but one thing this team seems to lack desperately is speed

I'm not totally sure what our NHL contracts look like but I think they are saving space in Buffalo for Fasching when his season ends. They have to keep it below 50 and I think Fasching reports right to Buffalo so they have to keep space for him up here as well

One site says 46, another says 48, another says 45...no idea.

Our PK has been not so great the last 4ish games. The PP has struggled a bit over the last 2 weeks or so as well, but has gotten a few here or there. Don't allow that PP goal to the Rangers last night, and you now have a 2-2 tie. I get it. They really can make a difference. Teams feed off of how they do in the special teams areas. It can translate over to gained momentum during 5 on 5.

yup, can't disagree with any of that

Shameless plug, for anyone who may have missed it yesterday:

Hey folks, just wrote a story, sort of like I've done when bringing up how the team is doing compared to last season (and then the last time I did it, I compared it to the 11/12 team). Rather than plopping as much as I wrote for it in here, I put it up as a MyHockeyBuzz post. Would appreciate the read and comments:

Edit: keep in mind, comments on that part of the site are kind of crappy, they're character limited to something ridiculously small compared to the lack of limit here.

Thanks, fixed the post. I guess a copy/paste from the post yesterday messed up the URL.

I didn't even look at the names, honestly, just looked at the #s they show for different parts (forwrds, D, Goalies, non-roster).

The one with 48 was on spotrac. 24 active players, 24 non-roster. Looks like some of the non-roster guys are wrong (I see Leduc as a standout among them, so probably at least another messed up)

Edit: I see Ellis listed as well, though no money showing (since he's not under contract)...weird site.
