At least the Sabres know when to tank. The Leafs may win the lottery, or they could be 4th...we had a guarantee of getting one stud the last 2 years.

And the Sabres are at least 2 years ahead of the Leafs on a competitive timeline. It used to be that TO had a money advantage over us, but not anymore.

So your "TO is the center of the hockey universe" logic is flawed. Stamkos may not want to be a part of the circus that a star in TO has to face every day.

I'm not necessarily saying it isn't true, but who was the last Toronto born star who did what everyone is hoping Stamkos will? Lots of factors come into play once they're actually in the league.

Anyone being able to afford tacking a 10-12 cap hit on the books is debatable. Not saying a team is made a lot better bringing him in, but that kind of cap hit instantly creates a different dynamic for a team moving forward.

Why? Buffalo has every chance at being competitive in the next 3-5 years just like TO. If TO can't convince Stamkos they will be competitive in at least three years he would be a complete moron to sign there. Regardless if he grew up cheering for the Leafs. That why lots of NHL stars have retired here in East Amherst . Like your legend Darryl Sittler . Lowest crime rate in America . A 500,000 house there goes for 3 million in Toronto and the cost of Living is about 40% less . And you are still a 90 minute drive to visit your family in Toronto . I'm not saying there's no chance he signs in T.O., but let's be realistic here: Not every hometown boy burns with the desire to play for their hometown team, and will jump ship ASAP. You can use the same argument to say that Tavares and Stamkos will eventually sign in Montreal because of their childhood friendship with P.K. Subban. See how stupid that sounds?

In the end, Stamkos will sign where it makes sense for Stamkos. He wants to help a rebuild? Look to Toronto and Buffalo. Wants to avoid a media storm? Kiss Montreal and Toronto goodbye. Wants to win another Cup ASAP? You can go on and on and on...in the end, his reasons will be his own, and no team should be butthurt if he doesn't sign there.

Me too. Plus Pierre McGuire said no way he signs in montreal so that's always a good sign. I can't remember Pierre McGuire being right.

I think it's montreal and Detroit with Buffalo being VERY close behind. Buffalo is not an original 6 team but very big fan base and close to home. And the best prospects of all these teams.

Toronto is a joke. Seriously. They are a mess and going even deeper with these small European prospects floating around everywhere. What a gong show there

I hope he does. Still will not change the fact that the Sabres have made the Leafs their female dog since they came into the league.

Toronto fans can make fun of the city of Buffalo all they want. Because it kills them where it matters most. On the ice. But it would take ten years of the Leafs sweeping the series against the Sabres just to get to .500 against them.

The Leafs are the little brother. Sorry about the 1999 conference finals with no phantom high stick to complain about as to why the Leafs did not make it to the finals.

If Stamkos goes then so be it. I'm sure that Yzerman has made (and will make) every attempt to sign Him. For next season or two we will take a step back, but this isn't the end of us by ANY stretch of the imagination.
