Giving any player 10M+ with the salary cap like it is and not expected to go up is a huge risk and I am glad Yzerman and Stamkos are both doing their due diligence before making such a deal. If Yzerman feels he has to keep him to stay competitive he will pay 10M if not he will let him walk and have 10M in cap space to work with, if Stamkos feels he wants to win for the foreseeable future on a team setup to contend maybe he will stay at a discount if not he will test the open market and probably get over paid. I love watching Stamkos play and it would stink to see him leave but I would understand, will be interesting to see it all play out. I hope he stays but at the right terms, he is a good kid I like rooting for. |

I hope he stays with TB, though i dont quite understand the purpose of the lowball offer of $8.5mm per?? If he does sign elsewhere, I think BUF would be the perfect fit |

In the end it just depends on what Stamkos wants....if he wants to cash in he will go home and try and help with that rebuild....if he wants to play for a contender then he might have to take a little less but at least he has a chance to win....all boils down to whats important to him at this point in his career

That is what you get when you don't use your assets well. We know that Stamkos is over rated and now he will be overpaid. He is good but not that great to demand that kind of cash. But some idiot team will pay him excuse me OVERPAY him and the live to regret it Vinny to Phila prime example Clarkson etc. These guys just are not worth the long term investment. Youth is temporary but stupid is forever |

Yes, Vinny and Clarkson are perfect examples for stamkos. People are going around talking about stamkos like he gets 40 or 50 goals a season, idiots!!!! |

Kopitar signed at $10M a year and players absolutely care how they get paid comparatively. Tampa's trump card is obviously they can sign him to a longer term. My guess is either Tampa pays up enough where it's not worth leaving or he goes to Toronto....
Then again we have some great Dino BBQ in Newark... |

Because every player that grew up in Canada wants to play in Toronto Right . They grew up watching Toronto win all those cups NOT
I could care less who gets him . But Toronto fans really need to get over it. - Maximum Signal
Not one player in the NHL has seen the leafs win a cup, let alone get to the finals |

At least you CAN drive throught Buffalo. In Toronto you sit on the QEW with your car in park staring at the lake.
Keep your traffic and your high priced everything. |

I guess beating the leafs is more important than a.cup in buffalo - dmarsden2988
Since the Sabres came into the league, they and the Leafs have won EXACTLY the same amount of Cups. |

I was being supportive of the Sabres...knocking down the guy who said that beating the Leafs was more important than winning the Stanley Cup for the Sabres and their fans. |

He's going to the Devils, then he'll retire in year 2. He'll be seen in Toronto dominating mens league games from there on out. |

He'll be paid in US dollars, smart guy.
And yes, Buffalo is a dump, and it's widely known. Hardly a destination for a superstar like Stammer. - As_I_See_It
Dude is still butthurt we got Babs
"Leafs are stuck with Clarkson"
"Leafs can't trade Phaneuf without retaining salary"
"Babcock never goes to Toronto'
"Stammer will never sign in TO"
|
|
|
|
It has nothing to do with these so called "insiders" and analysts, and EVERYTHING to do with the fact that Shanahan has gotten poop done since he's arrived.
- Completely overhauled the management structure and built one of the league's best staffs: Done and quickly
- Overhauled entire scouting staff: Immediate dividends
- Everybody said Babcock wasn't coming to T.O.: Signed him
- Everybody said Clarkson, Kessel and Phaneuf couldn't be traded: Traded
See where I'm going with this? If this pattern continues... There's a damn good chance Stammer could be a Leaf this summer. - As_I_See_It

Some idiot team gave a really good return for a bum named Kessel.
Stamkos is elite, young, has a tremendous work ethic and will be a strong leader for our youth. Don't see why you're hating. |
