He's only scored over 35 twice in his career.

Over the 6 year period he's played in 419 of 458 games or 91.5%.

I'm not talking about 2 or 3 years from now, I'm talking about years 5-7. Where did I say he wasn't going to be VERY productive? I said he could put up 70-75 points. I'll elaborate. He could put up 70-75 points for the next 4 or 5 years probably. How many of those 30-33 year old players are making ~15% of a teams cap? Because I've got news for you, the cap isn't going up anytime soon.

Ovechkin doesn't play center because he's dogpoop at back checking and all-around defense. Centers have to play defense. The NHL isn't like the game, you can't just throw guys any old place and expect results. I play with 5 forwards all the time and I wreck people, that doesn't mean it would work in real life. You have to balance personalities and where a guy is best fit to play. Most of those highlight reel goals Eichel has scored this year? Say goodbye to them when he's on the wing. Most of them were a direct result of him being in the middle of the ice.

The only assumption I made is Jack wouldn't like playing wing. Both Stamkos and ROR have both, numerous times, come out and said they'd rather play center, which in the ultra conservative NHL may as well be an ad on the from page of the New York Times saying they hate playing wing. If Stamkos really didn't care he'd have signed in Tampa already. He's not going to find a better situation than Tampa.

1) Stamkos said it ONCE, and it was only bc someone directly asked him where he'd rather play. And immediately followed with "I'll do whatever the team needs me to do to win"
That's the kind of guy I want here

2) Jack on the wing... It's not like he wouldn't be able to score any more. Maybe he'd just score different types of highlite reel goals. MOST guys that grow up playing center end up on the wing in the NHL. We're seeing it on our own team with Sam & Ennis. I don't see why Jack couldn't be successful there as well

4) I'd assume that Tim & Dan have already had these talks since it seems pretty well known that the Sabres will pursue Stamkos.
And I wouldn't be surprised if at the end of the season they sit down with ROR & Jack to see what they think. Murray has mentioned before that he's talked to players about "situations" that have come up to get their input. I'm specifically thinking of the Kane suspension here. I see no reason they wouldn't do the same in this case.

Maybe Stamkos wouldn't wanna come here under any circumstance anyways.
I believe that Murray & Bylsma will do their due diligence & and have a plan In place though if he decides he does want to play here

They brought it back in the zone and Sekera had a bad pass that led to the empty net goal. I've watched the Oilers the last few games, and it was only a few games, but Eichel vs McGod may not be as big of a disparity as people say. McGod has been very average lately and Eichel is on a bit of a tear. McGod needs to get stronger, which I'm sure he will. Jack already has a man's physique

If he doesn't re-sign here than the trade is a bust, IMO.

We gave up a bunch of assets for a player who played here for two years and then walked and quite possibly never played a playoff game for the team.

I think he gets a 7 year $49-50MM deal.
