If that means removing Reinhart from that group, it's a downgrade.

I was here and watched it all live. It was 100% the opposite.

The fill ins were OK to do what they were supposed to do. The core was never good enough, and didn't have the passion to play over their heads.

I don't remember them ever getting anything out of the bottom 6 guys. It was always, Vanek, Pomer, Stafford, Roy or nothing...... but to be expected when the bottom 6 was the likes of Kaleta, Eliis, Gerbe, Hecht, Luke Adam, Cody McCormick.

But I most certainly agree on the passion ............ there was very little of it.

pommer, jp, briere and drury

that was it for players that brought it on a regular basis during the day

hecht was a 3rd liner playing up a few lines
vanek was whatever you call him
roy was fine for 3rd line, never ready to make that leap
kotalik was blah
grier was a nice playoff guy that darcy f'd up and let walk only to bring him back past his prime
connolly was the last player dracy should have counted on to anchor anything
max was max
and the d was average at best, aside from soupy and mckee

- homiedclown

2005-2007 team? Should have won it all ..........oh and Hank was pretty damn good then........... as was Lydman

NHL GMs here in Boca Raton anticipate talking about limiting the number of times a team can pick No. 1 overall in a given stretch of years mostly because of number of top picks Oilers have recently had. Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli understands the frustration: "It's not an unreasonable thing in light of us winning the lottery last year. If we didn't win the lottery last year, but were the fourth pick, would it have come up again? I don't know."

I said this right when they inserted the "tank rules' to keep Buffalo 5% further away from the possibility of getting the 1st overall….."whats going to keep Edmonton from winning it again?"
….and then they did.
it should be, if you win 1st overall, the best you can do the following year is 5th, 4th the following year and then you can re-enter the lottery upon your 3rd tear of sucking.
The NHL tried the whole "shouldn't be rewarded for losing" spiel, but didn't carry it through all the way.

Over the past couple of years, I've learned that the only practice lines to take seriously are the ones on the morning skate.

Yes, this needs to end for the benefit of the league. There's nothing wrong with rebuilding even though it's commonly referred to as tanking these days. But any team that consistently sits at the bottom purposely to soak up the next star players should be allowed to do so. Edmonton is in line to pick top 3 again and other than drafting Nurse they've done virtually nothing to address the defensive side of their team. We need to stop rewarding this behavior.

I think it's actually debatable that they are doing this on purpose.

I don't think it is on purpose . Management just was inept for a number of years . I think that condition trickles down to the players on ice performance. I still can't get the picture out of my head when they panned to McDavid as they announced that Edmonton won the Lottery . That kid did not look happy.

Then maybe this will open up the firing of inept GM's that can't properly build up a team 7 years with 4 #1 picks

They do have a new GM and coach . Good ones . Now they need to change the core as some of these players need a change of scenery.
