Um he's a Flames fan as well as the fact the Crosby draft was weighted on the results of the team in the season prior to the lockout. Try reading the posts, and taking at least 5 minutes to think over what you just read before responding.
- leonkennedy

or you could continue reading to the next post where i had the percentage chance of the pens winning the lottery, or the fact that all 30 teams had a chance to win the first pick as opposed to the 14 that missed the playoffs.

some fans of one team can discuss the goings-on of a rival with a broader picture than just being a fanboy. try reading the posts, take 5 minutes to think about it yourself, and then not responding like an ass.

Just rig it then. The whole point is it gives everyone that missed the playoffs a chance. Rig it so we cant win it. Then quit whining.
- Oilfan19

have i been whining? if you don't think this is a pretty substantial topic for this league and every other professional league, then i'm not sure why you're bothering to respond.

you guys get so defensive when it comes to discussions about the lottery. it's fine if you want to "win it again just to laugh at the haters" or whatever. i don't begrudge a single fan for being excited to have that much talent on the team. i don't hate a single person for immediately buying a bright orange 97 jersey. i don't want you guys to be penalized in any way. i just don't want to see a team; any team, even if it's the flames or whomever, have that many #1 picks in that short a period again. that's all.

You were crying about fairness and all that BS. The fact that grown men, GM's of teams are crying about fairness about a team winning a lottery just blows my mind, babies got there bottle taken away.. Like (frank), it's getting stupid.

As far as the Crosby draft goes you are right there were 4 teams that had a better chance then the rest of the teams did. Oddly enough Pitts was in horrible financial shape and thinking above moving or what not if I remember correctly ... Talk about conspiracy theory stuff but this is the reason I think Matthews is going to be in Arizona come the draft lottery.

This entire issues is the fact the Oilers have had 4 1st round picks, like I said at the top of the thread if its any other combination of the top 5 picks no one cares.

Could you imagine if LA (Or some other team that barely missed)some how won the lottery last year, are you telling me that wouldnt be a bigger problem for the league?

Could you imagine a team being as bad as Toronto never getting the 1st overall because of the new Oiler proof lottery system and then their rebuild take 15 years ?

No one ever tanked worse then the Pens did in the Mario draft although Buffalo was a close second last year.

2 of the 4 oilers 1st round picks are bc of the NHL lottery system, its not their fault that they won them in those seasons.

If the NHL wants to change their own system since its broken, and not the NHL wants to stop the Oilers from getting 1st round picks, people need to realize that. If they dint win any of those lotteries, its no different than a lot of rebuilding franchises having multiple Top 5 picks in a 5 year window. Without the Lottery wins, they would have very similar top picks like the Panthers did for a similar period of time, but no one rips on the Panthers for tanking, etc,

Granted they are good now after a similar time of top picks, eventually it all comes together for a team

Why not just word it properly in the first post? Or pay attention to the fact he's a Flames fan when making statements like "you guys got McDavid " to a Flames fan posting about the lottery. When did the Flames get him?

At this point, would you put more value on Bear or Jones?

Both have been really great late round pickups.

Since the year 2000 a total of 11 teams have had the 1 overall pick and guess how many of them have actually gone to win a cup? 2 out of those 11 teams have gone on to win (Penguins and Blackkhawks)

5 of those 11 teams have gone on to enjoy constant regular season success since they got their #1 overall draft picks so yes while its nice to get the #1 pick you need a hell of alot more then that to win games in the NHL so people can complain all they want but those are facts

#1 picks are a nice thing to have but as the Oilers have proved it doesnt mean success and it has meant success for less then 50% of teams who have had that pick since the year 2000 so people can hate on the Oilers all they want for their "lotto success" but it has gotten us nowhere and as the stats show it rarely gets any team anywhere
