NHL GMs here in Boca Raton anticipate talking about limiting the number of times a team can pick No. 1 overall in a given stretch of years mostly because of number of top picks Oilers have recently had. Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli understands the frustration: "It's not an unreasonable thing in light of us winning the lottery last year. If we didn't win the lottery last year, but were the fourth pick, would it have come up again? I don't know." - Gerk

It was gunna happen anyways. And we can deal with losing korpse - Oilfan19
Given how this season went with injuries and seeing how this takes place before the beginning of next season I just cringe at the thought of McDavid or Drai (possibly Nuge and Hall) out there playing games

I'm interested in seeing where this talk goes before I write about it. Initial thought is that NHL GM's are reacting to a situation they created. They made it easier for the Oilers to win the McDavid lotto bc they knee-jerked to them improbably picking 1st 3 years in a row. The odds of Edmonton or any team replicating that success from a random draw is incredibly unlikely as it is. - Matt_Henderson

except that getting crosby was a 30 team draw that was not at all based on results, so they had a 1st overall and a 2nd overall based on where they finished.
surely you can't think that a team picking first 4 times in 6 years equates to any sort of fairness. i don't even care that it's the oilers. the idea that one team can be gifted that much talent is ridiculous. nobody is taking mcdavid away from you guys, we promise. but going forward, things have to change where something like this can't happen again. - chester97
Pittsburgh won a weighted lottery based on where they finished prior to the lockout. Yes every team had a chance but Pittsburgh had more lottery balls than any other team. |

have i been whining? if you don't think this is a pretty substantial topic for this league and every other professional league, then i'm not sure why you're bothering to respond.
you guys get so defensive when it comes to discussions about the lottery. it's fine if you want to "win it again just to laugh at the haters" or whatever. i don't begrudge a single fan for being excited to have that much talent on the team. i don't hate a single person for immediately buying a bright orange 97 jersey. i don't want you guys to be penalized in any way. i just don't want to see a team; any team, even if it's the flames or whomever, have that many #1 picks in that short a period again. that's all. - chester97
Didn't Quebec pick #1 three years in a row. |

yep, 89/90/91. that was back when it was based solely on the standings. they instituted a lottery within a couple years after that. |

It's this thing that we tend to win every year yet still sell out our building every night... Weird that the self proclaimed "hockeytown" cant do that with all there success...
I dont have any actual beef, just couldnt come up with anything witty - Oilfan19
Oh no worries at all, gotta keep it light and loose
I am hoping with the new arena that will be there soon that they won't allow as many rows in the lower bowl to keep corporate bought seats...it has indeed always been a nuisance to see some empty seats that are technically paid for, but at times not in use.
Then again as I've said many times before, during this streak, Wings fans have been spoiled...that's for certain...which in turn for a time brought upon certain expectations and a certain aura of Blase at times for better or worse, due to having seen it all for a few years.
Excited to see what the lottery & the draft hold as always! Before Larkin I got so used to our draft picks being traded away most of the time...along with not seeing those prospects for another 6 years or so. |

Could you guys loan us Holland and his crew for a few years? People can say what they want about the wings but I dont know of too many teams that have been as consistant as the wings have been over the years

Same deal in Toronto too, you always see empty seats in the lower bowl.
Yeah see thats the thing that is keeping me going through this bullpoop playoff drought. This city will be absolutely nuts when we finally do make playoffs cause we have been starved of it. |

(frank)ing older than me. Was originally a wings/Yzerman fan when I was younger cause I had that Don Cherrys rock em sock em tape with Stevies OT clapper on it against ST.Louis. Dad took me to my first Oiler game when I was 4 and changed my mind, Oilers fan ever since |
