Well i mean goals per game has been almost the exact same every year since the mid-late 90s besides a few crazy seasons in there of extremly high goal scoring... i don't know why people keep saying differently.

5 year gaa from this chart shows it is anything but a stretch

lowest since mid 1950s

- homiedclown

It's a stretch to compare current hockey to 60 years ago. Who cares what was happening 60 years ago in hockey. The last 20 years scoring has been around what it is now.

look at the GAA for each year

the last 5 year stretch is lower then any 5 year stretch since the mid 50's

what goals scored shows you is an inflated stat as empty net goals are on that stat where the gaa stat shows you how many goals were scored on a goalie in an nhl game

Good call on that, I've just been using goals/game as a reference. Still though, the league has been basically the same for (almost) 20 years now.

goalies are allowing fewer goals in this recent era since the mid 50's

since the 2004-05 lock out, the goals scored is in a gradual decline with a glitch here and there

So there was no empty net goals scored between the 50s and now?

I wouldn't call it the same, I would same the game has reverted to where it was right before the 2004 lockout

IMO hockey was at it's best after that lock out and now buttman has allowed it to creep back to it's clutch and grab

You GAA stats show almost the exact same trend..... over the last 20 years, besides a few seasons, scoring has pretty much stayed the same withing .3 GPG or GAA.

I'm not arguing on the point of what is good/bad about the NHL, just pointing out that bringing up the 50s in response to someone knocking Stamkos is a bit weird.

pretty sure they are much higher now but you would have to ask the leaf fans that gloat about all their cup wins for that answer, since they were around from that era and I was not

I started that pissing contest when I said with goal scoring down, stamkos is even more important to get

pay attention ref

So it was best after the lockout where GAA was 2.6-2.7 and now it is 2.5. So, over an 82 game season the difference of 8-16 goals is that big? 1-2 goals difference every 10 games. I just don't see it. i'll hang up and listen.

Why is he crying about the blocker? I read they are only changing the pants and chest padding.

They better be changing the shoulder pads too because those are looking stupid again.

On scoring, while it may not be down that much, check the style of play when watching games.

For the most part, that is definitely less entertaining than it was the year after the lockout.
