Maroon and Kassian are most likely gonna be part of the Oilers plans in the long term.
With that being said, I could easily see them getting 3+ year deals at a cheap price.
Not to mention Chia loves those kinds of players.

It might also mean the end of Eberle and Yakupov's time in Edmonton... along with a shift from speedy wingers to big, physical wingers that can also produce offensively.

That is such a solid, physical Top 6. I don't want to see Eberle go, but he brings the most value in any trade. With that being said, I think the Oilers should keep RNH. Doing so preserves a lot of center depth.

Those 2 have been huge pick ups for this team. Still a lot of work to be done, but good moves by Chiarelli. Also having Anaheim retain salary on Maroon makes it that much sweeter.

I dont think thats a bad contract for him too, but Hes in sort of a good spot right now, showed he can be effective and still play, has a decent qualifying offer to accept on a 1 year deal, but if Oilers dont qualifiy him, he will be a UFA and could get a simliar contract on the open market on another 1-2 year deal.

I just dont see him signing less than his qualifier, guys like him who could be out of the league in a couple years dont have the luxury of passing up 500k on contracts

I'd give him one or 2 years. No more than that until he proves that he's got his demons under control. For what he's brought to us, he is well worth 2.5/year.

Well said. He has a past of dealing with illegal substances and that should still be taken to consideration. He has done well so far, but what happens when you give him a solid contract, with a long term implication? Will he go back to his old ways?

However, Chia should lock him up for 3 years, not two and here is why. If he is locked up for 2, and he performs well for those two years, we will need to worry about resigning HIM, Maroon (Whom I think will blossom with the Oilers), Pouliot, McDavid, as well as Nurse. Not only that, but if we sign him for a term longer than 2 years, it will bring his expected cap hit down. 3 years for 2mill vs 2 years for 2.5mill. That .5 coudl be a difference maker down the road.

I like him, does some questionable things when he is not moving his feet, but when he stays moving, hes a decent Dman, seeing a Dman that can actually blast one from the point and make decent break out passes is pretty damn refreshing

He's got a great shot. If he could just play responsible defensively with bottom pairing minutes and QB the 2nd PP unti you guys will have quite a find. But for a dude who is like 6'4" 220 lbs he plays baby soft.
