McCabe is the victim in this scenario, IMO. Obviously if there's a top-pair guy acquired, it's no big loss overall, but I'd like to keep him on the team
- stashu

We're gonna have a loss one way or another. I don't want to lose McCabe, but like you said if we have that other top guy then I wouldn't be too upset I guess.

It's a hard call to make, especially at this point with not all the information yet.

I guess the "good" news is the roster will have enough guys to WANT to protect.

Why couldn't expansion have happened this past offseason??! Grrrrrr

Does that entice them to try and trade Bogo this summer? Or do you move McCabe and Pysyk in separate deals to get your top 6/top 2 fwd and d-man?

Another thing to consider is you need to have 25% of your cap unprotected. If Bogo didn't have the NMC he'd be perfect. Same with Moulson, if he can go with only a NTC it's perfect.

To answer your question, I think they'd move Pysyk but it's up in the air. This draft will at least give us stuff to talk about.

Don't agree with Kane... he will only have 1 year left. And do you protect Larsson, Foligno and LionEater over guys like Bailey, Baptiste, Schaller, Catenacci etc.?
- CoHo_to_B-Lo

i dont wanna lose bailey, have foligno and larsson fight it out for one spot next year. would be nice to throw a 2nd or 3rd at vegas and ask them to take moulson, not sure if an expansion team trying to get to the floor would even want that though. unfortunately, ennis and pysyk would be more appealing than 5 million dollars worth of moulson and a 2nd rounder i think.

Something I don't get is their is 30 NHL teams. 12 forwards 2 goalies 6 defenceman. That's 20 players plus what is it three maximum scratches you can have? so let's say 23. That could mean pretty good players would have to be sent down to the AHL right? Couldn't a team that lost the player then just pick that player up off of waivers?

Say for instance we lose Larsson. It comes to fruition that he can't make the top 13 forwards in Vegas and they send him down to their AHL team. Buffalo could just scoop him back up on waivers no?

Im operating under the assumption that it's only the NMC guys who have to be protected but until the NHL actually comes out with an official ruling it's all speculation.

Lehner & Colaiacovo did not practice today. Coach Bylsma said they are both dealing with lower-body issues; will be evaluated again soon.

Bylsma says Lehner missed practice with something a little more than a maintenance day. Evaluation coming, may need a recall from Rochester.

What about cap hit on the new team? Possible they pick enough high end contracts that they end up over ?

They may sell tickets, but will the place look like it?

If, as you say, the casinos but tickets, that may leave a lot of seats still going unfilled. While going to Vegas is fun, how many non-hockey fans are going to care if they're comped a ticket to a game?

- stashu

I agree, I think a random person getting a ticket in Vegas would be on par with a person getting bandits/bisons/UB/Canisius ticket here. You'll go if it's convenient but you won't change plans. BUT, the tickets will be sold vs Florida and other crap markets.

I would protect ROR, Kane, Foligno, Girgs, Larsson, Bogo, Pysyk, Ennis and Sugar Ray.

Is this the consensus of what everyone else thinks?

- mhp

Are we talking about this year? Because if we're looking at it being after the 2016-2017 season things would be a lot different. Assuming its players going into their 1st or 2nd pro year not just completed their second year that would eliminate a lot of players from the exemption list.

Namely Reinart, Eichel, McCabe, Bailey, Baptiste. So in that regard with not knowing who else is on the roster after next year...

ROR, Eichel, Reinhart, Kane, Bailey, Ennis, (Depending on next year either Girgensons or Foligno)
Risto, McCabe, Pysyk
Lehner

That would leave Gorges, Larsson, Deslauriers, Moulson, Baptise, Carrier, Rodriguez, Ullmark, Ruhwedel and one of Girgensons or Foligno as options. Though I bet Murray would likely pick one and trade the other so he doesn't lose them for nothing.

I wonder if Bogosians no movement clause was voided after he waived it come here? If so I'd put him on the please take me list. If not moot point.

They don't have to take a player from every team i believe. Some teams won't lose anybody. I think they pick a full roster with a few extras.... maybe some career AHLers to add some depth? Does Kaleta like Vegas?

Something else im not quite clear on, do players with NMC's fall under the exemption category like the first and 2nd year pros or do they fall under the you must use one of your protection slots on them category?

Vanek insists Minnesota leaves him unprotected.

(ignore that he'll be a UFA and just laugh)

Yea any way i slice it seems to result in him being the victim as well. All depends on what they choose to do about NTC/NMC.
- Sabresfan-365

Any way you slice it?

You must mean if players with a NTC/NMC have to be protected?

If that is not a restriction, keep McCabe all day every day over Bogosian.

I have not been to Vegas in a few years, but the prior times I have been, none of the shows were that good.

The clubs were the only thing worth paying for if a big name DJ was playing.

Never been on ice skates, was never very good on rollerblades either, but I appreaciated this article on pointing out some information on Eichel's "weird" skating techniques.

We paid $200 for tickets to see Skrillex, got there over an hour early stood in line to get in for 2 hours and saw him for 15 mins. That was the last time i was there. I wasn't happy.

I always enjoy Blue Man Group.

Rhino and alcohol never disappoints.
