unless i missed something, you only protected 9 guys.....isn't it 11 that each team will be able to protect, thought I read that recently?
EDIT: Oh i see what you did, protected the 4th D man.
This doesn't seem very smart....we can protect 2 additional guys if we only protect 3 D men. Sure, i don't like the thought of losing Pysk, but I hate even worse the thought of losing a Girgs and/or Foligno, to expansion, instead of losing just a Moulson, Nick Del., or Gionta type. |

It's 7 Forwards, 3 D, and 1 goalie
Or
8 Skaters and 1 goalie
You'd do the latter if you had more than 3 D that you really wanted to protect |

yep, i just added an edit.
It seems silly to go that route for Buffalo......unless Pysk REALLY develops next season. |

We paid $200 for tickets to see Skrillex, got there over an hour early stood in line to get in for 2 hours and saw him for 15 mins. That was the last time i was there. I wasn't happy.

Not sure if it was covered.. probably was... but 1st and 2nd year pros will be exempt. Which means Eichel will be exempt, and therefore you can protect a guy like Ennis. Also, I think Reinhart would be also, but not sure considering he played a few games with Rochester last season. - TheSabresTaco
The draft wouldn't be this summer, it'd be next. So they wouldn't be exempt at that point. |

From Gunners blog:
• Teams will have two options in who they protect: either they safeguard seven forwards, three defensemen and one goalie; or they protect eight skaters (whether they're defensemen or forwards) and one goalie.
• First- and second-year pros -- including those playing pro hockey at any level -- will be exempt from the expansion draft. But if they're entering their third year of pro hockey, they're no longer exempt. Teams would have to either protect them or expose them.
• Unsigned draft picks (think college or European players) are exempt from the expansion draft for two years from their draft year but not in Year 3, so teams will have to either rush to sign those guys or simply expose them in the expansion draft.
• The total salaries for the players made available by each team in the expansion draft must be at least 25 percent of the previous season's payroll for that team. Daly explained: "The other variation that makes this expansion draft different is we would contemplate having some thresholds based on salary to make sure that the expansion club can be competitive based on the ranges we have in the CBA. Teams would have some obligation to expose a level of salary. And in terms of drafting players, teams would have to draft a certain threshold of salary." |

Sorry if was already stated but what happens with NMC or NTC's? If a player has one, is the team obligated to use a choice on them? If we can expose Gio and Moulson it will help tremendously, not only for the sheer number but also the cap requirements. If not IMO we are going to be using spots on guys who aren't very good and are quickly forcing us into some tough decisions.

From what I've heard...players who haven't completed their 3rd year pro are exempt. So Reinhart and Eichel will absolutely be exempt...meaning we can protect 9 and 3. Or those two and 8 more.
My picks
O'Reilly
Kane
Girgensons
Ennis (if he is still here)
Eichel **
Reinhart **
Risto
Bogo
McCabe
Pysyk
Lehner
But that could all change depending on whether or not we land any significant veterans via trade/free agency this summer or next. |

No. Players going into there 3rd year will need to be protected. So they absolutley will not be exempt.

Nope, 2 full completed seasons triggers eligibility for expansion draft. |

The NHL is working with the NHLPA on it. From what I saw it seemed like NMC would be forced to be one of the held.
As far as Gionta goes, he will be a UFA next summer, so it won't matter. |

"I think it means you might lose a No. 4 or No. 5 defenseman, or a No. 6 or No. 7 forward, or a decent goalie," said Buffalo Sabres GM Tim Murray. |
|
|
|
Are we talking about this year? Because if we're looking at it being after the 2016-2017 season things would be a lot different. Assuming its players going into their 1st or 2nd pro year not just completed their second year that would eliminate a lot of players from the exemption list.
Namely Reinart, Eichel, McCabe, Bailey, Baptiste. So in that regard with not knowing who else is on the roster after next year...
ROR, Eichel, Reinhart, Kane, Bailey, Ennis, (Depending on next year either Girgensons or Foligno)
Risto, McCabe, Pysyk
Lehner
That would leave Gorges, Larsson, Deslauriers, Moulson, Baptise, Carrier, Rodriguez, Ullmark, Ruhwedel and one of Girgensons or Foligno as options. Though I bet Murray would likely pick one and trade the other so he doesn't lose them for nothing.
I wonder if Bogosians no movement clause was voided after he waived it come here? If so I'd put him on the please take me list. If not moot point. - bluengold12

The first one won't be bad. It's when they add the 2nd team it could hurt us more. |

Yeah it will. As they can snag even unsigned prospects not signed after 2yrs |
