They had no business building the arena in the place they picked, wait until people have to park across Tropicana Ave. in the Excalibur parking lot and walk across. You can hardly see the arena from the Strip at all, it's behind Monte Carlo and New York New York.
- SABRES 89

What about the fancy park they built that funnels to the Arena? That comes right off of the Blvd. The success of that franchise depends on a couple of factors in my opinion. One is how many out-of-town tickets they can sell. I think non-locals are very important because as you mentioned the parking situation isn't ideal. I know you can basically park anywhere on the strip and get there within 15 minutes, but my understanding is that most locals don't enjoy being on the strip.

I went 12-4 in my basketball pool today

the 4 losses, I had the other team winning the second rd anyways

- homiedclown

12-4 as well. I need a big day today though.

I had both Purdue and Baylor in the Sweet 16. Doesn't kill me.

I really don't see how an NHL team survives in Vegas. The city is a 24/7 tourist town. All the locals work for the entertainment/casino business in some way, which means the city's true population is either 1/3 at work, 1/3 sleeping, or 1/3 free time during the 24 hour day. Now this differs from a normal city where the population is usually at work during the day, free in the evening, and sleeping at night. Vegas will only have 1/3 of its population available to go to game at night because the other 2/3 will be either sleeping or working. And, why would they want to waste their money on hockey with all the entertainment opitions the city offers?

As for tourist seeing games, why would they? You don't pay thousands to take a Vegas vacation and skip the shows to see Vegas play Anaheim, you can see a hockey game at home. When I go to Vegas, hockey is not on my mind.

So in other words a population larger than Buffalo?

my favorite hole in the wall is casino royale

subway in the back for cheap breakfast, never crowded so lots of slots that tend to pay better then the bigger casinos

$1 bottle beers, so I can go to the bar, grab 3 for $5 after the tip and carry on my way.
Then when I go to leave, give the bartender $5 more so I can have 3 for the walk down the strip

bonus is the sucker with the beer cooler selling the bottles on the street for $3, all bottles bought at that casino

One reason why I always stay at the mirage or caesars

I love Casino Royale. They have a White Castle in there now too.

Also... not every city in the world has an NHL team.. i make special trips to Columbus to watch buffalo games and know several other people who do the same for chicago and detriot games. I could see people who are fans of certain teams planning vacations to go to vegas while their favorite team is playing..

they will lose someone decent

girgens, mccabe, pysyk

someone
maybe lehner is thrown out there if the other goalies develop so they can keep their skaters

- homiedclown

If I'm having to expose any of those players I'm making a trade first, I'm not giving any of those three away for nothing.

The traded player would be exposed too. Unless you expose one of your protected players. Can you get a better player to protect ? Possible but not probable.

Problem is the team you trade them to would have to be in the place where they themselves can protect them. Obviously they won't trade for someone to have them leave for the same reason we trade them in the first place. Girgs maybe, but the rest have a tough go being protected on almost any team. There will be a dozen players on the market from teams who do not wish to lose them for nothing and my guess is that they would be some of the higher end players being traded for picks or prospects. They will trade big names for big futures that is it. The tweeners will be staying with the teams they are on with fingers crossed.

IMO Pysyk doesn't get you anything because any other team would have 3 better defenseman already...

why not just trade them for draft picks? I would think even if it just for a short playoff run you could get something for them. of one of the rebuilding teams (oilers, Leafs, etc) I'm hopeful that in 2 years we are done with the rebuild.

That would be the only way it ever happens to be that you trade an unprotected player for one you don't have to. That or a 1 year pro. Even unsigned prospects in their 3rd year are subject...

Possible too. Remember we must expose at least 25% of last seasons cap total we had.

There is no way on earth I am risking losing McCabe.

I would get rid of Bogo by any means necessary before I'd risk losing McCabe.

From Gunners blog:

• Teams will have two options in who they protect: either they safeguard seven forwards, three defensemen and one goalie; or they protect eight skaters (whether they're defensemen or forwards) and one goalie.

• First- and second-year pros -- including those playing pro hockey at any level -- will be exempt from the expansion draft. But if they're entering their third year of pro hockey, they're no longer exempt. Teams would have to either protect them or expose them.

• Unsigned draft picks (think college or European players) are exempt from the expansion draft for two years from their draft year but not in Year 3, so teams will have to either rush to sign those guys or simply expose them in the expansion draft.

• The total salaries for the players made available by each team in the expansion draft must be at least 25 percent of the previous season's payroll for that team. Daly explained: "The other variation that makes this expansion draft different is we would contemplate having some thresholds based on salary to make sure that the expansion club can be competitive based on the ranges we have in the CBA. Teams would have some obligation to expose a level of salary. And in terms of drafting players, teams would have to draft a certain threshold of salary."
