Have you not seen the innovative and original ways in which the Oilers players find, to get themselves placed on the IR? There is no such thing as a surplus centerman in Edmonton. - leonkennedy
That's why i included Linden Vey.
Problem solved.
He's an ironman. |

Even tho Yak isnt a center I think the linesman putting him on the IR was probably the most creative injury of the season

Dude I am serious this one time.
Long gone are the days where a team rides a goalie almost all 82 games of the season and the guy backing him up, is a plug. The competition to be a tender in the NHL is light years ahead of what it used to be. The notion that playing a backup tender is a teams way of saying they are playing weak competition, is about as outdated as the notion of assigned gender roles. - leonkennedy
I'll bite then,
Are you saying that you don't think the oilers face more backups than the Hawks?
I agree with your sentiment that backup goalies in today's game are far from pushovers. (Hell, ours in Nilsson was the superior of the two for a stretch) and it certainly isn't a "slap in the face" per se.
And I'll even agree that alot of it has to do with mercy of schedule. Ie; back to backs etc
But I think coaching will attempt to set it up against weaker teams if possible. And for the exact reason ih8bb stated. Because they're ithe inferior goalie.
Even something as far as a scenario like both goalies fully rested, but they give the oilers the backup on the OPENING night of the set while saving the starter for the Canucks the following night (say a few years ago when van was elite)
I wonder where we could find some facts on this |

Didnt Chia put conditions on the trade that if Jultz scores more than 2 goals the pick is - upped to a 2nd |

By that same token, an argument could be made for using your starter against a weaker team to solidify your chances to win and then trust that your backup is capable of at least holding the team in (as they often do on good teams) against a better team. |

I think it was if he gets more than 2 goals Chias has first right in trading back for him |

Another thing to throw in do you think sometimes a coach takes a goalies record against a team into consideration?

Some might. Others not so much. Price almost always poops the bed when he plays the Oil, but they keep putting him in. |

I'd assume for the most part it's probably predetermined in terms of schedule/strength of competition as stated before. But for sure this has happened a few times. Ryan Miller owns the oilers in regulation and earlier in the year the nucks gave him the 2nd night of a back to back to face us instead of the usual first night the starter gets.
Same goes for the yotes and mike smith. He just flat out doesn't lose to us. And I assume coaching plans accordingly |

No I think the Oil came out on the right side of that one. Just pisses me of that the bastard had to play competently when he played us. |
