I think he really only has AHL upside right? He is a d-first d-man who had a decent NCAA career.. Admittedly I dont know much about him. - jak521
Never seen him play but I don't think Hextall would give him an ELC if they didn't think he had NHL upside. |

Just looked at his stats briefly only 2 goals and 13 points. 45 shots on goal in 33 games. One thing that really stuck out to me is that he took one penalty all year. Had a total of 2 penalty minutes. |

He has good size. He isn't bad with the puck even though he isn't really an offensive guy. I think he could be a nice set him a forget him type. Doesn't try to do things he can't.

Looking at the 2012 draft I just noticed Ghost was born on 4-20. No wonder he plays at such a high level... |

Thats literally exactly what I was going for! Thank you so much for your astute interpretation! - jak521
You're welcome.
But really, the chances are that the combo of Provorov, Morin, Sanheim, and unnamed 2016 draft pick are collectively better and/or cheaper than Weber. That said, it's 1 in the hand versus 4 in the bush, and there was always the possibility of trading some of those first back to Philly for prospects/players. Plus Shea Weber is my favorite NHL player, so I'm biased. |

The point of the article is that really that because the Flyers were unable to land him, they have been able to really revamp the entire defense through the draft. It is not about filling his spot, but that idea that not getting him allowed us (forced) to really invest heavily on def for the future. |

I understand. I am simply stating that, as hyped as Morin/Sanheim/Provorov are, they have yet to collectively do anything at the NHL level. They could all be top-pair elite guys, they could all be bottom-4 guys. The reality is probably somewhere in between. But I would still have liked Weber because he was a proven commodity. |

Only saw him play twice. Seemed to move well, decent size. Didn't handle puck like a grenade in either game. Didn't stand out, either, but as a defense-first defenseman, that's kind of the idea. |

Wow. Pretty impressive, especially for a defenseman. Speaking of which I think Provorv had 16 PIM this season, 12 of which came on this play: http://www.broadstreethoc...-pls-dont-hurt-each-other - TobyFlenderson
What would be fan base reaction have been if Sanheim had thrown Provorov down and caused him to retire due to head injuries? |

Maybe. Also highly doubtful, as Provorov probably has the edge physically, although Sanheim has the reach. |
