I agree with you there, from what I heard though is that him signing and coming out of college early may be dependent on him getting some NHL time. With only a handful of games left, we could see him play a couple and go finish with the Amerks, or God willing if the Amerks make the playoffs...finish the season with Buffalo and go down for the playoffs.

From what I know if he plays up here he automatically burns a year so if he's up here keep him up here until the end.

Yeah, we really have nothing to loose except for that year. I really want to see how he would play on a line with Eichel.

I wonder if the expansion draft is looming in Murray's head. Burning a year now would expose him, right?

i'll bite...

probably not...I will say that we saw a glimpse of what the sabres might be like without him in their 4-1 loss at Toronto...and, as for McDavid...were he not injured he'd be running away with the calder race, imo...

that being said i'll take the approach that neither howe, orr, gretzky or Lemieux are the greatest ever to play the game...an equally persuasive argument could be made for each

Please don't overlook Byron Froese from the TML. 50gp 2g 3a 5points. This guy deserves a trophy for getting this far in hockey life with the name Byron. I feel like he should be sippin tea of playing Polo or Croquet or some poop.

Little late to respond here, but i always felt the same way about the name "Boyd Devereaux."
Boyd? Seriously? Who besides millionaires name their kid Boyd?
Its like he should have had an ascot tucked in under his jersey.

That is a good question. He would have to play 2 seasons I think is how it works. I'm not sure if burning a year of his entry level contract would be the same as him playing 2 seasons.

I wouldn't put Byron in that category at all personally thats a pretty "hood" name as far as i know.

Byron Brown, Byron Maxwell, Byron Leftwich

Fine, then 12. Point being, will they offer him an exorbitant amount of money under Lou? He's not the guy who, in the past, has thrown caution to the wind as far as the cap is concerned. He's a smart guy and if he thinks that money could be better spent elsewhere he might not do it. But that's still to be seen.

Didn't he lose draft picks over that Kovalchuk contract?

I think that might be because "byron" is an an old, rich white man name.
Probably like 100 years ago.

He would have to be protected
This would be year 1, next would be year 2, and then he'd be headed into Pro year 3 when the expansion draft would happen

*unless they decide to stipulate that college players who sign & play only a couple games this year don't count

As the way it's written now, we'd have to protect him

Any rumors yet about Philly calling?

Johnson being traded there makes all kinds of sense

I'll bet TM uses the ATO with Rochester as a workaround for this rule...if it is in fact a loophole.

I don't think Johnson would be able to play for them should they make the playoffs right?

Or do u think Philly would take the hit to get steady goal tending until they get Neuvirth back to start the playoffs

No, Johnson cannot play in the playoffs, if he's traded to Philly it would be until Philly reaches game 82, then Johnson's season is over. I've never heard of any team making this type of after the deadline trade though.

Correct
He couldn't play in the playoffs, but he could help get them there
Obviously, we wouldn't get much of a return...
Unless they're REALLY desperate
My guess would be we get something like a 5th back

If Murray could have gotten a 5th at the deadline, called up Ullmark or Leiwen and had Kasdorf as a backup...it would have already been done. If Philly changed their minds due to the Neuvirth injury it would be a 7th rounder or a garbage prospect Jack Nevins style I bet.

I think u can do a "pro tryout contract" as well...
But a couple of games, whether AHL or NHL might still count as a "year played"
In which case,
Sorry Fasching... We'll cya in training camp in a few months

Anaheim is gonna have to trade AT LEAST 1 defenseman
Guys under 25 they'd want to keep:
Fowler
Vatanen
Lindholm
Despress
Theodore

* they might be one of the few teams that decides to protect only 8 skaters so they can keep an extra defenseman...
But they'd still have to expose 1 of those guys
And then they'd have to expose either Silvferberg or Ritchie, as well as a couple other decent young forwards
(Getzlaf, Perry & Kesler would be protected)

I still think it could be a little better than a 7th
They've got a bigger need now
Regardless of the return,
I'd go to Johnson & see if he wants to go
If he does, do it
It might give him the chance to showcase himself to be a possible starter for someone next season...
So it could be a nice gesture on our end to a guy who's played hard for us this year
And if no one gives him that shot...
I bet we'd be his #1 choice as far as backup duty goes, in part bc of that gesture

You have to be on an AHL roster at the close of the Trade deadline to be Playoff eligible, so I assume that if Sabres sign Fasching to a PTO, then I believe he can't play in AHL playoffs, but if Amerks sign him to a PTO, he may be able to be called up?

Just a thought

From Wikipedia:

A Professional Try Out (PTO) is found only in the AHL. This type of contract is limited to 25 games and a player can only be signed to a PTO twice per season. After the second time, the player is either signed to a Standard Player Contract, is a free agent, or if the player is signed to an ECHL team, he is then returned to that team.[3] During the National Hockey League (NHL) preseason, veteran players who tryout for a team sign a PTO.[4]
