Over/under on how Fasching helps or hurts our draft position?
We lose 2 more games than we would have without him, resulting in 2 spots lower in standings. Just a guess.

I think he will turn out fine assuming his work ethic remains the same. - hammatoe
I would imagine so too. He has a lot to work for, now being able to provide his siblings with the best care they can get is gonna be huge for him and his parents and i think that will motivate him even more. |

No, not pissed at all. My bad if it came off that way 89 for real. Not being pissy at all. Just really dont know why it matters. The way all the "pros" are making it sound is that this was the best option. Plus with his family situation why not help the kid out now? Could help us in the long run if he turns into something special. - CoHo_to_B-Lo
I would just rather see him next year and not burn a year for 9 games, we will need the cap space next year or so. |

But we can only sign him to a 2 year if we wait until next year thats why i don't understand the difference. Sign to a 3 year now and "burn" a year. Or a 2 year next year. Seems like it benefits him and his family and doesn't hurt us at all. Am i wrong? This is what ive read so not sure. |

You think he's mike weber bad? At worst sticking him in the lineup is no different than any of the other call ups we've made. |

No reason for him to play now and burn 1 year off for 9 games, make no sense. Very foolish move my Murray. - SABRES 89
i'm no cba expert so I asked baker about it...he said that the year is burned and that the nine-game thing only applies to the beginning of the season...
with that in mind, it'll be great for Fasching to get his feet wet and see just where he stands at the nhl-level |

I'm not sure it even matters considering the alternatives...he replaces Cal O'Reilly or Dan Catenacci... |

Again, the biggest problem with waiting until next year is if he completes his senior year he is free to become a UFA, Murray is smart enough to see that paying him around 80K (prorated) for 8 games this year is a better option then losing him to someone else next year. Plus he gets a feel for the pro game and learns what he has to do to succeed in the Pro's
Seems like a no brainer to me. |

I honestly think this is awesome to give the kid a deal. With what his family has been through and the way this kid has worked his whole life is unreal. Him and Jason Day probably have some of the most touching "family" stories. Makes me respect this kid already no matter how he turns out in the NHL. - CoHo_to_B-Lo
Same here. this kid couldnt be paired up with a better owner, imho.
If he works hard and keeps doing what he's doing, he and his family will be well taken care of.

For sure. Im curious if the Pegulas have done anything for him prior to this for his family. Or is that against the rules? I mean we did own his rights. So idk. |

No quotes for me this morning again, so......
"I can see the reasons for and against playing him.
Signing him now was the right thing to do if there was a real chance of losing him.
That's all I have to say about that..."
My only concern would be having to expose him in the draft.
However, in 2-3 years, he could also turn out to be an AHL player.
Doubtful, but possible.
Money is obviously not an obstacle with current ownership.
If Pegula wants to pay a kid so Murray can evaluate him for 9 games, so be it, right? - seedy
If it was choosing between signing him now and losing him for nothing signing him now was the right move.
If he is a guy that is going to be in the top 6 he would get protected anyway. It really is a non issue IMO in fact it just pushes even more that Moulson would be left unprotected. |

Because if you don't sign him now, he can walk. He probably wasn't going to sign unless he was guaranteed playing time. More and more college prospects are doing that. - buffalofan19
Ruhwedel did it too and I don't know if he has been back up since. |

Being a college kid, it could get sketchy somehow, unfortunately. |
