He is still better than anyone in a Sabres jersey atm. - cabin
Totally agree. I just think it's funny that his numbers are analyzed for evidence of decline. Put an elite player on his line and he's scoring 55. Cough, cough..eichel... |

Oh trust me i am all for signing him as i look at our roster i don't see any (current) 35-45 goal scorers and he would be a huge veteran presence to our young guys who has dealt with being a star... BUT
Seeing as though the only thing that matters on this board ever are G,A, GAA, S%
he's been 3 years removed from a 60 goal season that being his peak potential, he has no place on this team. - Havic3814
I still think we just get used as a bargaining chip to get a better deal elsewhere.
In a perfect world.. I'd do a 5 year 55M contract. He gets top dollar until he is 31. We don't have long term ramifications and aren't handcuffed when guys like Eichel, Risto, Reinhart, Kane, etc. need new contracts. |

Who is center on that line?
Stamkos is like ROR and only has interest in playing Center. I wouldn't be surprised if it was in ROR's contract that he gets X amount of ice time at C. He just wanted stability and now he has it and he is BOOMING.

That would be ideal but i understand that the overall number at the end is the one that matters and if it takes more years so be it... I think Stamkos could add things besides goals and assists, more than Matt Moulson is.... |

no but he seems to bring more to the table for this coaching staff
maybe ted nolan should be hired by the sabres as a lion handler to get girgens back in the game |

your right we can trade him
girgens does not get above 3rd line winger when the team is down 2 centers
stop embracing mediocrity - homiedclown
You are that guy that when you have your mind set on something you try to prove it in every way possible but that doesn't apply to the guy. The intangible things that Girgensons does that are imperative do not show up on a simple stat sheet. He should be a 3rd line player on this team but he has ability to move up when needed. Larsson is a borderline 3rd line player possibly better as a 4th line. Not the same. |

That is the big question. I would hate to move eichel out of the center position. I wonder if that would matter to him? |

It really not worth trying... Anyone could be moved for the right price im fine admitting that but Homie would trade half the team away for half a snickers bar eaten from both ends. |

I know that Eichel has moved around on the PP to wing and the blue line spots. I think that he is a great center player but just not good on the FO dot yet.
Reinhart I have NO problem moving to wing. If they ever move him back then so be it. I won't shed any tears either way.
But I could see Eichel as a "3C" if ROR and Stamkos are above him and then in certain situations they can move him to a wing just like the Penguins do with Malkin next to Crosby.

this is 2016, not 2014
he stopped doing those things
it's like holding on to kotalick, tim connolly, hecht, etc
the guy has third line talent that does not translate under this coaches system
if girgens was so great, he would be 3rd line center, not larsson
when injuries happened, girgens would have been the second line center, not larsson.
hell girgens had to be 3rd line wing man for a career ahl center
but lets pretend that didn't happen |

Not sure how those assets get you Eberle and Fowler.
I don't think you see ROR at wing while with Buffalo either. He has proven himself more than capable on the dot and on the score sheet this year.

I love how you are completely oblivious to the fact that Girgensons can play wing and center pretty equally but guys like COR, Schaller, Larsson, Varone, etc. can't... so that is why those guys play center and Girgensons was "a wing to a career AHL center". In order to make the lines fluid
I also love that you are completely oblivious to the fact that Blysma starts the Girgensons line and matches them against every team's top line in almost every game that I remember. He has a place... He shuts down other team's top lines. He is -4 which is possibly the best of all of the full time starters.
But let's pretend those facts don't exist. |

ennis, girgens, pysyk if needed, 2016 first rd pick, 2017 first rd pick, ullmark, etc
if they could sign stamkos and yandle, there is 2 holes left on the roster a top 6 winger and a top 4 d man

I'll leave now before someone starts to claim that "the boards are different now" and that people always start stuff with him and calls him names even though he always uses emojis to insinuate that other people are dumb and insults
Quick... play the victim like everyone is attacking you... Oh no... please... come back... don't go...
Gotta run.... That was fun.

Girgensons is on our shut down line. He faces other teams best lines every night on every shift and is still basically our team best +\- on a bad goal differential team.
His job isn't to score goals and make highlight reels.
I honestly cannot remember that last time that another teams top line has lite us up. It's almost always seems to be secondary scoring or PP. |

I base my feelings on realistic expectations for growth
right now girgens looks like a 5th round pick on the ice, not a 1st rd pick
we would be no worse had we kept mitchell or flynn for his current roll then this lion eater |

is that why he gets 12 minutes of ice a night? |
