"Players who have only earned two years of pro service are second-year pros and are exempt.” So there you go. Unless the framework is changed, teams (and their fans) need not worry."
Via Eliot Friedman. Also echoed by Tim Murray.
Means Eichel, Reinhart, Fasching, Bailey, Baptiste all exempt.
I have my doubts that Bogosian still has a no movement as well. |

"Buffalo’s Sam Reinhart went from zero goals in a short NHL window last season to 20 so far this year. Since 2005-06, he’s become just the fifth forward to go from nothing as a 19-year-old to 20-plus as a 20-year-old. The others: Jamie Benn, zero to 22; Patrik Berglund, Michael Frolik and Derek Stepan, zero to 21. (I fully admit to some cheating on this. Evgeni Malkin and Alex Ovechkin also had zero goals as 19-year-olds, but that was lockout-driven.) The only defenceman to do it? Dion Phaneuf in 2005-06."

I'm assuming this is for the expansion draft? They really can't get their crap together as to what is going to happen. I like that they're trying to get people talking about it but get it hammered out before releasing it rather than this.
Because what I saw, said this:
First- and second-year pros — those are players playing pro hockey at any level — will be exempt from the expansion draft; the bottom line is that if they are signed and playing pro hockey, they’re exempt in their first two years. But if they’re entering their third year of pro hockey, they’re no longer exempt for the expansion draft. Teams would have to either protect them or expose them.
Now maybe I'm reading it wrong or maybe the expansion draft would technically be at the END of next season rather than the BEGINNING of the season before that, but Eichel, for example, will be a 2nd year player that is going into his 3rd year in the summer of 17-18.
I just want a clear answer that we can stick to. |

Also, since it's related, from The Hockey Writers:
"In addition, players with no trade, or modified no trade clauses, will likely be able to choose whether to accept being claimed by an expansion team, similar to an ordinary trade, yet this of course has all yet to be determined."

The Hockey Writers have Jake McCabe on the Las Vegas Roster?
- Sabre_Tooth
Of course they only take a crappy goalie from Toronto...
McCabe will obviously be one of the three defenceman unless we make a trade and Bogosian is in fact a no movement clause player (debatable)
Risto McCabe (Bogosian/Pysyk)
Or
Risto, (Player X) McCabe |

If Tim Murray and Elliot Friedman are saying that they still count as 2nd year players I'm going to go with them 100%

Thats what I was thinking.
I feel like either way Las Vegas will start with atleast a decent team. |

It's not that accurate but can't expect them to know the ins and outs of all 30 teams I guess. Probably just did a toss up between him and Pysyk.

No trade clauses as far as I've read don't have a choice as they aren't being traded. No movement clauses are another thing entirely but it's currently debatable if Bogosian is even a no movement guy based on Murray's comments. |

Can u provide a link for the Friedman quote please...
Bc this is what originally came out
"But if they're entering their third year of pro hockey, they're no longer exempt."

I was always under the impression Bogo had a no-movement clause
Gorges, Legwand and Moulson have no trade clause -- Gorges I know he can list up to 15 teams....for Legwand and Moulson it may be up to 8 teams |

did that get voided when he waived his ntc to come here though? |

According to general fanger
Gorges, Moulson have no trade clauses. Gionta and Legwand do as well but both won't be under contract after next season (which is when the expansion drat would happen)
Murray said in an interview last week that he didn't think there was anyone on the team with no movement clauses. Unless he forgot (which as a GM you think he wouldn't) makes me feel like when Bogosian was traded maybe some of the language in the contract changed and that wasn't released to the public. |

My understanding was that the NMC hadn't kicked in yet and that's why he was able to be traded. |

Yeah the brackets were not even close to balanced but i had no way of knowing that... Sucks cause your team is killing it this week. You are crushing both other teams Team Co Kane has been crushed with injuries and i think Seguin going down and PK88 not lpaying great is the nail in the coffin for him. - CoHo_to_B-Lo
yea I know what that is like. I lost Crawford and Duchene. Duchene had had like 37 pts in 29 games to end the year and Crawford was a W machine. I think he also lead NHL in shutouts at one point too. |

Oh I was under the impression that Moulson had a NMC not an NTC. Well okay then. Bogo does have an NMC according to GeneralFanager. If Murray says he doesn't then maybe he's right but the info that we have says otherwise. Guess we'll see |
