yeah, but that may not matter. They're 36 years old. Without some serious help, they can't do it alone, and without an improvement in linemates, combined with their age, they may be nothing more than 50 point players themselves. - prock
might mean they trade a guy like virtanen and sign a couple overhill the free agents instead of becoming full on sellers.
i hope they keep grasping at straws and don't go for an accelerated rebuild. |

Update.. Vancouver still at the bottom and I dont think it really close at this point, they are the worst
Bumped Montreal up a little..mostly just based on results ..but I am not sold on their long term success
Leafs #1. 3 rookies carrying the team at this point. All have looked great
Laine getting it done for the Jets, still lots of great young players to build with. Trouba holdout knocks them down until we see the return (not likely as good as Trouba)
Edmonton get the Mcdavid nod
Ottawa is just avg all over
Leafs
Jets

I think Vancouver is in a better position than Ottawa... they're bad enough that they might improve, but Ottawa is in a cycle of sub mediocrity that they won't come out of any time soon... but hey, Melnyk probably doesn't have more than a couple of decades left in him, right?

NHL Power rankings (Nov 1st)
1. Montreal Canadiens (11)
It was on the eve of Thanksgiving Day 2015 when Carey Price suffered a season-ending knee injury against the New York Rangers and the Canadiens promptly plummeted. With Price fully healthy again, the Habs are flying high again.
Newcomer of note: Shea Weber leads the team with 10 points and -- flawed stat or not -- he's a league-best plus-12
3. Edmonton Oilers (19)
Give them their due. They will fall off this pace, but the Oilers have started the season with a 7-2-0 mark in a year it appears they've finally found the map to get out of the desert and Connor McDavid has been sensational.
Newcomer of note: Milan Lucic is so far delivering to expectations alongside McDavid, with four goals and seven points prior to Tuesday's game.
12. Ottawa Senators (27)
The performance last week of goalie Craig Anderson -- two shutouts bookending a spell away from the team while his wife, Nicholle, battles cancer -- is the kind of thing that galvanizes a team to big surprises.
Newcomer of note: Derick Brassard's five points in eight games in a second-line role is around his career average, but should improve once his shooting percentage increase.
20. Calgary Flames (16)
After a rough first couple of weeks, goalie Brian Elliott has rounded into form. Now the Flames need their young dynamic duo of Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan to find their game -- especially on the road -- after basically missing all of training camp. That said, Alex Chiasson doesn't really seem the right player to have on their line.
Newcomer of note: Matthew Tkachuk, the sixth-overall pick in this year's draft, has one goal and four points in eight games. Whether he stays or returns to junior is up in the air.
25. Winnipeg Jets (20)
Patrik Laine, the second overall pick in this year's draft, leads the Jets with six goals. However, this club just can't seem to gain traction with a winning streak in the tough Central Division. They need better goaltending but also more scoring depth.
Newcomer of note: Josh Morrissey has a couple of assists, but the 21-year-old is having his ups and downs on the top defence pairing while Jacob Trouba's contract dispute drags on.
26. Vancouver Canucks (29)
Yes, the Canucks currently hold a playoff spot, but look how it's already unravelling. After winning their first four games, the first three without actually leading during game action, they've dropped five straight (the last four in regulation). Vancouver is the only team scoring fewer than two goals per game and there aren't reasons to believe it will improve that much.
Newcomer of note: Loui Eriksson, signed to a six-year, $36-million deal in the summer, is yet to score a goal despite significant time skating with Henrik and Daniel Sedin.
29. toronto maple leafs (30)
The kids are providing offence and optimism for the future, with William Nylander already at 11 points, Auston Matthews second on the team with 10 points, including six goals, and Mitch Marner at a half-dozen points. As a team, though, the Maple Leafs aren't very good.
Newcomer of note: Goalies Frederik Andersen and Jhonas Enroth are facing way too many quality chances, but have been awful. |

power ranking like this they might as well just post the NHL standings
Vancouver won 4 game to start..but anyone who looks beyond the point could see they were in trouble..and the worst team out of the gates |

They have the Rangers tonight too. They have a good chance at losing their 10th in a row. Impressive. |

If they don't make any dumb moves like that and they actually become sellers they'll unfortunately be in pretty good shape. They have a chance to jump right into a rebuild without having wasted years and years on trying to be an 8th placed team. |

I agree they could get some great returns if they decide to tear it down
but if Benning is still the GM when/if that happens... can he get the proper return. Can he evaluate players properly to get decent returns? |

6. (1) Montreal Canadiens, 10-1-1
OK, I know this is a little harsh, given their league-leading record. But I had to make the 10-0 pasting that Montreal suffered against the? Columbus Blue Jackets?on Friday night count for something! The Habs had a nice bounce-back win the following night at home over a rested? Philadelphia Flyers?team. You know Carey Price and Shea Weber were going to make sure that happened.
8. (2) Edmonton Oilers, 9-3-1
The Oilers snapped a three-game slide (0-2-1) on their recent road trip with weekend wins against the Islanders and Red Wings. How much fun will Tuesday's game at Pittsburgh be, as Connor McDavid and Sidney Crosby face off?
12. (10) Ottawa Senators, 7-4-0
Things that make you go hmmm: Despite having the NHL's most offensively gifted defenseman in Erik Karlsson (love having him on my fantasy team this season), the Sens are just 23rd on the power play. They were 26th last season.
19. (29) Toronto Maple Leafs, 5-4-3
The Leafs' underlying stats suggested their slow start wasn't really reflective of their overall play -- and now they're getting wins to back that up. The NHL's youngest team is riding consecutive victories, with visiting Los Angeles next up on the docket Tuesday night.
24. (19) Winnipeg Jets, 5-7-1
Jacob Trouba?kept losing money while the Jets just kept losing games. Saner minds prevailed on Monday when Trouba signed a two-year, $6 million deal to return to Winnipeg's fold. The Jets need him, and he needs to play.
27. (20) Calgary Flames, 5-8-1
Man, I was convinced the Flames would bounce back and make the playoffs this season. It's early, but boy have they been inconsistent, especially defensively. Calgary is sitting 28th with 3.57 goals against per game.
30. (26) Vancouver Canucks, 4-6-2
The Canucks have gone eight games without a win (0-6-2) since starting the season 4-0. At least they scored three goals on Saturday night in Toronto after being shut out four of the five previous games. |

NHL teams are paid in US Dollars, and all 7 teams in Canada just have increased costs foisted upon them

when the USD goes down, and it will drop significantly, it will be ALL GOOD for Canadian teams. |
