Islanders have the D in Hamonic and goalies. Hamonic gives them a very good dman on a great contract and someone who would want to be in Edmonton and re-sign with them when his deal is up.

To finish last again as they likely will the way they're going does it really matter? Clearly the management group of this team is beyond incompetent and somehow they'll find a way to eff this up and you poor oil fans will be chearing for a bottom feeder again next year!!! Teams are not trading top pairing D. Hamonic is the only one possibly available ( to only 3 teams ) that is a top pair D with term on his contract.

I cant see St.Louis giving away Shattenkirk and I also don't see Edmonton or anyone else giving up the farm for a guy on a 1 year deal.

Edmonton's only really choice is to trade those forwards mentioned for younger D under team control who have not yet established themselves as that top pair guy but have at least shown the potential that they will be.

realistic targets for the Oilers to try and trade for would be guys like

Philly- Sanheim or Morin
Ana- Vats or Lindholm
Minny- Brodin or Dumba
Wpg- maybe!!! trouba

Hall would yield the most assets. They might get someone to bite on RNH but I doubt it. The kid cannot stay healthy. Not to mention his 6M cap hit for the next 6-7 years.

I hearya but IMO it was a tossup n i take a C anyday over a winger.

Now were it me, I would be protecting only three players in Edmonton: Connor McDavid, Hall, and Jordan Eberle. I would try to get better defensively by possibly moving Nail Yakupov, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, or even possibly (although I would try not to move him) Leon Draisaitl.
