You can still have a salary cap. Players will just be 18 year old UFAs. - PhillySportsGuy
I don't agree with that. Like I said, I believe the draft is the best process for all sports leagues. as it is they cut back on the amount of rounds and you are limited to a certain amount of signed players (50).
the players using the loophole are well within their rights and would I want to seew the Flyers sign one of these kids? Of course. But that said, I don't like the loophole. |

Dude you still have not posted a single thing that shows AMac has anything to do with that. You posted biased p/g stats and the TEAM record. It is a joke. I'm done wasting my time until you can make an actual argument.
Terrible corsi rel. high PDO. 12% oiS% and paired with the best offensive defenseman on the team in quite a while.
He has soft hands for a guy holding onto coat tails so hard - YuenglingJagr
Now you sound like MJL ... At least he could give credit where credit is due ... AMac is definitely helping this team right now. |

So true.
Pro sports are more like little models of communism. They tell you who you must work for, have salary caps, labor unions, wealth redistribution and want all teams to be fairly marched.
I think a little free market thinking would do all sports one good.
When Vessey gets traded years from now some GM is going to tell him "it's a business". I don't mind seeing it cut both ways. - Richard_wilderness
Exactly. Although, I would say it's more socialist, but yeah, GMs like Homer will sign you to a 12 year deal then trade you the next day, but, god forbid, a player changes his mind after agreeing to sign with the Preds. |

The win last night was great but the watching the highlights one play stood out for me. On the Jets second goal both Bellemare and VDV were completely lazy on the back check allowing Wheeler to score. If the fourth line is out there to not allow goals, and generally keep the puck out of the d zone they better be busting their butts while in the defensive zone.

Dunno about helping/being a difference-maker, but he's mostly been competent, which has been good to see. In the past that wasn't always true. |

Seriously, the free market doesn't exist on any large scale in the real world with banks, speculation, wall street, currency, interest rates, etc. Why should it in a sports league? |

4 of his 6 points have occurred without Ghost on the ice, and his CF% only drops slightly away from Ghost from 48.5% to 47.9% despite the fact his OZ start % plummets from 58.7% to 18.2%. So much for coat tails. Ghost had similar possession struggles when paired with both Manning and MDZ but being ignorant of that fact of course you would assume it's all MacDonald's fault.
And the only player with a terrible Corsi Rel is Schultz. MacDonald's has even gone up in the last four games, but I'm sure small sample size is only an issue for you when it comes to stats like point scoring.

You have not shown anything that proves this 13-5-3 run is somehow happening despite one of the players who has been on the ice the most sucking. Because you can't. |

That's the other thing...contracts. Normal workers do not get contracts. At least in the NHL there is something of a guarantee. Imagine if players in the NHL were treated like players in the NFL. |

You can still have the 50 contracts. It's a huge change, but I think GMs would actually like it. They're constantly constrained by where they pick or the luck of the lottery. Giving them equal opportunity to negotiate would allow them to go after the guys they really like. It would also make scouting that much more important.
I just think drafting is so much about luck and I hate it. It would also eliminate tanking. |

There's that, but I prefer their community-based club system for development. Like Örnsköldsvik and Modo. - Tomahawk
I think that works when there isn't billions of dollars flowing around, like in soccer. |

I never claimed it did. There is however free market ideas/principals in the markets. There is way more statist influence these days but I believe when the free market is allowed to do its thing more people benefit. Just my opinion.
You are correct though. There has never been a truly "free market". |

Agreed. Free Market ideas/principles are good, the way to go. I just wonder about the idea inside mostly closed market such as the NHL. But a change could be good, who knows. |

If there was a group of 30 businesses that paid more than the other businesses...would you work for a developmental business and prove how good you were at your job in the hopes of being drafted by one of these businesses? or would you go work for a russian business or swedish business in the hopes that at some point one of the 30 businesses notices you and has a hole to fill |

Stretch includes time missing Giroux, Jake, and MDZ so sorry, but I am completely lost as to how a teams record shows anything besides how the team is playing. Can games be lost when there are really good players on the ice (see: Ottawa) and can games be won when there are bad players on the ice (see: whichever team got tricked into playing scuderi).
I have shown that there are individual stats that show AMac is on the average to below average spectrum while the team is on the above average spectrum. I said something originally not because I had a problem with AMac, but because I had a problem with posting a random stat to pretend like he is something that he isn't.

You pick each other, which is how the NHL should work. - PhillySportsGuy
Kind of, but you don't get the final say, and you definitely don't necessarily get where you want simply because "you're the best of the best and you worked hard." |

In what industry are you forced to make less than you're worth for 7 years? That's the ultimate question. - PhillySportsGuy There are plenty of professional leagues around. Nobody is forcing anyone to "work" in the NHL. They can go earn some rubles if they don't like the pay structure in the NHL.

well he is always right...
I would go more with not hurting to probably helping depending on the opponent and situation. The post you quoted was harsh on purpose, but I had stated previously how I felt about MacDonald. |
