It wasn't pretty, but they did what they needed to do which was to come away with 2 points. Here are some observations:
Ghost is simply amazing, his skills are off the chart.
Couturier may just be the MVP of this team. If you don't think so, compare their record with and without him. He plays the toughest minutes and gets the toughest matchups every damned night, and he's been averaging nearly a point per game down the stretch.
I love the way B. Schenn has been playing since the start of 2016. No worries, he will be re-signed.
Glad to see Simmer score, hopefully he goes on one of his hot streaks.
Major props to Mason, he's doing what it takes to win games and what more can you ask of your goaltender?
AMac is just awful, it's hard to believe that Medvedev or even Alt or Morin could be worse.
Hopefully a full day off with no travel will help them recharge their batteries and they can pick up a big win over a Caps team that is playing for absolutely nothing at this point.
GO FLYERS!! - BiggE
i dont get it, from what we've all seen from Medey this year, he does at least bring something to the table. its extremely frustrating watching AMac out there. altho he was less noticeable last night than prior nights, which has to be a good thing. |

First of all, even the "worst" working situation is professional sports is excellent.
Second, in the real world you don't get to choose where you want to work (which is what I inferred from your comment). You apply, interview (hopefully), and get hired (hopefully). - Scoob
Ultimately, it's your choice if you want to take the job. If I want to work in insurance, I don't have to work for the insurance company that drafted me.
You're comparing these kids to everyday people. They are the best in the world at what they do. When you graduate from elite schools, you will have many lucrative opportunities. You aren't forced to work for some poop organization for 7 years. |

How so? - PhillySportsGuy
Businesses dont play in a league that is focused on parity and salary caps and limits the number of employees a business can have under contract, for one |

Vesey didn't handle the whole thing well, but it's his choice to make. If he wants to be close to friends and family or play for a big market or play with a friend, he has a right to do that. - PhillySportsGuy
He didn't, so frank him. |

And this is why I hate the fancy stats. Guys can have all great fancy numbers but man, the guy has some of THE worse turnovers. that damn between the legs back pass to Giroux in front of the net that went between G's legs cannot happen. I want to like AMAC because quite frankly he is a Flyer but plays like that.... When the trade first happened I thought he did a nice job but ever since he got that big extension he just has not been good. no doubt in my mind if contracts weren't guaranteed he would be gone - nastyflyergirl
P/GP is not a fancy stat. |

False.
You apply where you think you'd like to go/work but the college/employer must choose you. - Scoob
Yes, but you aren't drafted by one college or job. You can apply wherever you want.
If you are a great applicant, multiple schools/companies will want you. If you are a great player, multiple teams will want you. |

Sorry, there is no "poop" NHL team. Again, comparing NHL hockey player jobs to the real world is a very poor comparison. |

Unfortunately that something is turnovers, which is why he's riding the pine in favor of Brandon Manning. |

The narrative that AMac wasn't fit for anything but AHL duty is deeply seated around here, and facts that contradict that make certain people angry and confused. Hence the whole "no offense" BS that started this discussion. - Feanor
A middle ground is possible. If all you want is to make people angry that AMac isnt in the NHL thats fine...I wasn't suggesting he should be and he would be playing over other guys all year for me...but pretending he is actually a positive reason for the Flyers resurgence this year is laughable and in my opinion, just as ridiculous as saying he is only fit for AHL duty |

I think too much restraint on leagues makes things even more difficult for lower budget teams. |

Theres an argument to be made that sports leagues shouldn't even have drafts because it's unfair to the kids. Can you imagine the top med student graduating from an ivy league school and being told he or she needs to go work in Flint because they need his or her services the most? - PhillySportsGuy
I have to tell you I don't compare sports to the "real world". The draft has been around for a long time and I believe in the draft for all sports. Its not like back in the day when a guy wasn't unrestricted until he was in his 30's. |

Actually watching hockey games is so 2013. You really need to get with the program, move into the modern era, join the team, go for the big win.

Sure, but you will only go to / work at the one that picks you. You don't pick them, they pick you.
If you are a great applicant, multiple schools/companies will want you. If you are a great player, multiple teams will want you.
Sure, but still not necessarily the one that you want. The reality is that you do not get to choose where you will go to school or where you will work. |

I'm comparing them to the best jobs in the country because the NHL players are the best players (mostly) in the world.
If I graduate as the top anything, I would expect to get some good offers and work at a place as good as the NHL.
I think the paying your dues thing starts at around age 12. From that point on, these kids don't have a regular childhood. They're constantly working out, traveling and playing in games. Many of them are professionals by 16-17 years old.
I just think the whole thing is unfair. If you're Connor McDavid and the best in the world at something, you should be able to go wherever you want. |

What's laughable is pretending this 13-5-3 run the Flyers are on is in spite of the play of the defenseman who has got the second most ice time in that period. |

And yet he's playing 20+ minutes a game including 2+ minutes on the much improved PK unit, leading the team in +/-, and scoring at a higher rate than any dman on the team but Ghost and Streit.

No offense.
MacDonald's been a huge part of the team's success since MDZ got hurt and you're just going to have to deal with that fact. - Feanor
Totally agree with you ... I shake my head every time I read the crap some of these posters say about AMac ... I get it! His contract sucks!, but he is not nearly as bad as some make him out to be! |
