False.
You apply where you think you'd like to go/work but the college/employer must choose you.

The Flyers are on the clock. They have a group of 5 guys that they're interested in drafting. They draft player B because they believe that player is best for the organization and has the potential to be a valuable member of the team iin the long run.

Hershey Medical Center is hiring. They have a group of 5 applicants they're interested in hiring. They hire pharmacist B because they believe that pharmacist is best for the company and has the potential to be a valuable member of the healthcare team in the long run.

Nothing says a Hockey player has to play in the NHL. There are other options. If you graduate college and want to work for the best companies in the world. You will go where they put you. Of course these kids have other options as well. Guaranteed money factors into it as well.

So called "eye tests" that are really just grudges on repeat and have only the slimmest connection to reality annoy me more.
- Feanor

I rather watch a player play an see the good and the bad. the little things that a player does that won't show up on fancy stats. Are stats totally worthless? of course not. but some people, and I am not saying you do because quite frankly I don't know you at all, judge solely on the stats.

I'm comparing them to the best jobs in the country because the NHL players are the best players (mostly) in the world.

If I graduate as the top anything, I would expect to get some good offers and work at a place as good as the NHL.

I think the paying your dues thing starts at around age 12. From that point on, these kids don't have a regular childhood. They're constantly working out, traveling and playing in games. Many of them are professionals by 16-17 years old.

- PhillySportsGuy
That's the same for any "regular" kid getting his education. Constantly learning, studying, taking tests.

I just think the whole thing is unfair. If you're Connor McDavid and the best in the world at something, you should be able to go wherever you want.

That's quite an entitlement attitude you have there.

Another POV on this subject: Most professional athletes have a very limited earning window. It's foolish to think EVERY professional athlete retires wealthy.

I'm fine with this kid trying to cut the best deal for himself.

I think where Vesey (frank)ed up is that he gave Poile his word that he wouldn't do exactly what he is doing now. That's the problem.

"Congratulations on being the #1 engineering graduate in the country! You've been drafted by Pittsburgh. Place is a poophole and basically needs every bridge re-done, so you better get to work soon. In 7 years, you'll have a chance to get full market value for your work and go to a city and company of your choosing. Good luck. Go fix pooptsburgh!"

Unfortunately that something is turnovers, which is why he's riding the pine in favor of Brandon Manning.

because thats exactly what AMac doesnt do, is turn the puck over...ever. Amac has his fair share of cons to his game, enough i think that they outweigh the negatives of medvedevs game. medey at least brings a sense of offensive capability, better passing, better skater, longer stick reach. i mean, i know its picking your poison basically, but if we have two sub par defensemen, id rather have the one that can do a little more for me in terms of skill

Since Valentine's Day...

Schenn has 9 goals, Ghost, G, Simmonds and Gagner have 6, Raffl, White, Cousins and Gudas have 5...

You can thank AMac.

So, which entry-level job that a 22-year-old can get will pay you upwards of $900K to start?

Exactly.

Think about how much McDavid could have gotten as a free agent. Then think about how much he's making right now. He's literally leaving millions on the table. Are teams going to reimburse him later when he's on the decline in his late 30s?

It should be the goal of every NHL team to gain a majority and force the competing teams to close up shop to get the highest market share in the NHL.
