Hard to do when you are injured.

You bring up Shinks AHL numbers... but Granlund was better down there... give it a rest.

- boonerbuck

Holy (frank) you are one combative individual. I think i might have posted a few times yesterday if you would like to bring those up as well? lol.

My original point (which I'm sure you have responded to at-least two to three times by now) merely stated my personal belief that Granlund has been no more effective then the likes of any other center currently on the team...

Shink and Granlund play two different types of game. One is a top-six scorer (at some level) whereas Granlund is a bottom six utility guy (at this point, yes.....in the NHL, you sure got me there).

Granlund brings redundancy to this team, at best.
Shink could have brought something different to this team, at best.

Ok?

So with Bernier stealing games lately, and Oilers picking it up, the Canucks might actually get the 1OA. If you pick Matthews, which center do you move to wing? I would love to see our top 9 like this:

Dank-Hank-Sutter
Baertschi-Horvat-Hansen
Gaunce-Matthews-Virtanen

Send McCann down? It's a good problem to have.

No guarantee of picking 1st if they place 30th.

The fact that Shink scored a goal has absolutely nothing to do with my opinion, as I have stated my beliefs about that particular trade since day one.

My argument is merely that Granlund, as of yet, has demonstrated nothing to prove that's he's an upgrade over the likes of Vey, McCann or even Gaunce.

Meanwhile in Utica, nobody is scoring, the team is struggling to find healthy forwards and the Canucks have lost 9 straight.

The argument that Shinks value would somehow decrease by continuing to put up a point per game in the AHL while most likely being a key playoff performer does not make a whole heck of a lot of sense.

But hey, Benning can do no wrong right?

- Whiskey-Tango

Benning makes mistakes, see the Vey trade. Perhaps this is a difference between us, I don't care about Utica this year. Sure, Shink could help them but it's a farm team that no longer has any legit NHL prospects so I'm indifferent to their success. I cared last year when they had some prospects in the fold. Let's wait until the 25 game mark next year to say Granlund is just like Vey, he sucks etc

I agree, Shink is a sniper, obviously something this team is slacking. Vey has impressed me more then Granlund

Again there no possible way you can make that assessment at this time. It remains to be seen whether Shink will get the top 6 minutes and PP time he needs to succeed. And it remains to be seen where Granlund will slot in here next season. Way too many assumptions.

That's a common misconception. Shink is not a sniper. Average shot at best. He has a knack for the net, I'll give him that. He produces despite a marginal skill set

WTF...is this a standard go to when people disagree with others point of view...he doesn't agree with your assessment of Granlund or Shinkaruk, but hey I guess it all boils down to JB can do no wrong... because he views those players role in a different light.

Indeed, it is an assumption, as is every single post on this site.

For arguments sake, lets eliminate Shink from the conversation all together, lets assume we got him for free or simply drafted him ourselves.

Henrik, Sutter*, Bo, McCann, Gaunce, Vey.

Assuming all of the above play center, where does Granlund drop in, even if Vey gets the boot this summer.

Keep in mind, one of the reasons Granlund and the Flames were so discontent was because he reportedly blowed at very position except C.

Alternatively, does subbing in Granlund for McCann really make this team better?

If Vey is gone it makes it easier. Sutter plays the wing until Henrik is gone, then your 4 C's are Bo, McCann, Sutter and Granlund. Gaunce can play centre but he has been mostly used and will likely continue being used as a winger

Centers next year:
Sedin
Horvat
Granlund
Gaunce

Sutter and McCann on the wing until injuries inevitably happen. Vey is gone for sure. Granlund and Gaunce are both better suited for bottom 6 center roles. Also, this crap about Granlund sucking at wing is idiotic. I know the Flames said he struggled but perhaps it's because they didn't experiment long enough. If you can play center you can certainly play the wing.
