We are mere mortals in his all knowing Universe. MacDonald is an absolute second pairing d-man. I know I have plenty of crow to eat. - PLindbergh31
Ahem...that is a slightly overpaid second pairing d-man, to you. |

Respectfully, I think that over simplifies. This team is night and day from the beginning of the year.
Trotz is a front runner. Boiled down: he took a stacked team and did what he should've.
I am not saying Hak should win, but consideration is warranted.
Also I doubt the voters boil it down to the simplicity you did. - Richard_wilderness

You dont think Hakstol gets tarred and feathered if he pulls Mason and someone buries an empty netter ending it all? Despite their track record in the shootout they still have a somewhat 50/50 shot at winning it. You put your team in the best position to win at that exact time...history is just history...until it gets played backwards on NBC - YuenglingJagr
And if the Flyers score on the 4 on 3 and avoid the shootout...........Hakstol is a genius because he played to a strength of his team.
Honestly he probably will just go to shootout but I would at least think about it. |

I think you have a better chance to win with a 4v3 as opposed to a shootout. Also, the other team isn't on a PK, so they can't fire at the net without risking an icing.
And yes, he gets tarred and feathered in they lose with an empty-netter. If they win it, he gets universal praise for such a gutsy move. |

Right...but in the scenario, you need 2 points, 1 point won't help you, so who cares? - jmatchett383
Yeah. I get that. I should have clarified my comment. Is this rule true? |

Which is actually what I think simmer was thinking in the CBJ game when he iced the puck at the end of the reg---- he just got PK and PP confused |

I'll always hate the Caps.
2 words: Dale Hunter
on second thought, make that 3 words: Dale (frank)ing Hunter - BiggE
I'll always hate Dale hunter, but they've been pretty irrelevant for so long I've lost some hate for the team as a whole. |

That is why I would pull the goalie. I don't trust the shootout. - J35Bacher
If you pull the goalie in OT and lose you get zero points.
It only makes sense if you absolutely need 2 points from a game. |

They do both begin with P. |

basically, the only time you would do this is on the last game (or two?) of the season.
it makes ZERO sense otherwise |

So, question:
Let's say the Flyers are 1 point behind Detroit/Boston for the 2nd wild card spot, and don't hold the ROW tiebreaker on the last game of the season. You get the game to OT and there is one minute left.
Do you pull the goalie? - jmatchett383
I honestly go full D3 and put Mase at forward position for the game winner |

But Masen has to become a defenseman in place of the backup goalie |

It's something that could happen in the last game of the season against the Isles. The rest of the league will already be settled, and the Flyers could be in the situation where getting 0 points or 1 point doesn't change who they play, but 2 points would move them up a spot.
So if there's two minutes left in OT and you have a OZ faceoff, pulling the goalie would make a lot of sense. Especially against the Islanders since they are much better than Philly at shootouts. |

Yes. then and only then. In my view it is not worth discussing unless that exact situation arises. |

Oh, now you're getting into "who would you rather play?"
I wouldn't bother in that situation. Play out OT with the goalie in. Deal with the SO. Move on to the playoffs. |

I remember in like 2005, The phantoms were playing a team at the end of the reg season, game went to OT, and the other team needed 2 pts to move up in the standings. They pulled their tender, Niity made a save, then they mistakenly shot the puck into their own net. Niity was credited with an OT GWG.. |

Amac is a decent NHL 4-6 D man who does well when limited to under 20 minutes a game, but is vastly overpaid in that role.
He could be a second pair guy with the right partner.
The contract and the fact they gave up 2 draft picks to preview him as a rental will always be irksome.
Speaking of Crow, when does Jon Snow get resurrected? |
