I really don't know. Mason stopped both shots; Flyers scored on both shots -- it was a perfect SO. What's better than perfect? - Mononoke

Hah! I live in the real world, thank you.
And I think I completely misunderstood your other post. Were you saying the Flyers would've lost if he was healthy? |

sorry...i keep telling myself im going to finish something up before work is over so trying to avoid that rabbit hole. Id bet that the fancys are in Klingbergs favor, but to me it all comes down to being 20 vs 23 - YuenglingJagr
I feel so old.
I don't think there's a right answer. Ekblad is posting great fancies this year now in an increased top 3/4 role. Klingberg is still used as a top pair guy and is doing even better than last year. I think Ekblad is better in his own zone, but Klingberg better offensively, but they're both well rounded. Ekblad is 3 years younger, though he's as close to a finished product as any 20 yo d man in the NHL. I could make do (begrudgingly) with either. Supporting cast matters too. |

Opposite - that he's so amazing they would've mopped up the ice with the Caps with him in attendance |

Honestly, I'm surprised, but I shouldn't be.
Chimera did that on a nationally televised game with everyone watching and 900 replays and most of social media propagating the gif of him doing it. |

Yeah I think by the time Ekblad is 22 or 23 he will be even better...but he does have the easier situation. Hopefully we have our own versions of them shortly |

What do you think about Ristolainen? I think he's done a great job overall as a very young player on a pretty awful team, and that his possession and +/- numbers will turn around as the team improves. But he was the guy I wanted going into the 2013 draft so I may be overly forgiving towards him. Plus, his name is cool. |

I think I agree with you. Even a player like Pronger took a handful of years to hit his offensive peak, mature as he was at 18. Or a Hedman (though he was nowhere where Ekblad was at 18 or 19). |

i was hoping he would fall as well. I think hes done well, but as far as possession goes he is underperforming on that team. He is being deployed in a much more defensive role than the other two guys and basically being used as a #1 on a team that isnt good. Certainly a less than idea situation on that team. Pysyk is actually the fancy stats posterboy on that defense
I actually wanted Monahan the most despite how badly we needed D...i really like him |

Did you happen to catch the name of the guy whose painting of Ghost they gave away at the game last night? - mayorofangrytown
No. Thought it might be on the website, but only the STH prizes were listed. |

I am wary to judge young player's possession numbers too harshly, especially in a situation like Risto's. He should not have the responsibility he has -- toughest minutes on the team by a good margin. We were just talking about Ekblad. He saw essentially 5/6 soft usage last year and now more like 4/5. And he is a better player than Risto. The team blows too so that's a fair point.
That's the thing about young guys and possession numbers: sometimes they improve with natural individual and team progression. Sometimes they're red flags. Like Laughts -- is it just early career bumps or does he have question marks? I think there are question marks about his all around play. I don't watch Buffalo games besides when we play them, so I really don't know. His usage seems extreme though and maybe not in his best interests. |

He was really sneaky. Ghost was just behind him on his right, the linesman (not ref I thought, I should go GIF Zapruder) just behind him on his left. The way they moved the guy closest couldn't have seen it. It wasn't during play, so who knows where other linesman and refs were looking? |

Funny enough Monahan is also a possession lacking player arguably carried by Gaudreau. And he's also on a possession lacking team. He's just so good offensively though. All he has to do is become OK and with a good linemate and he will be fine. Like Kane, who no one is confusing for a great all around player. But I remember the Flyers staff calling him a great 2-way center. Funny how those 2-way labels work out sometimes. |

Every time I look at Pysyk I wonder how come he gets such limited minutes. He's not getting a lot more ice time than our old buddy Colaiacovo this season, which is weird for a 24 year old who otherwise seems to be a good prospect. |

Hot Carnac take: I think Sanheim might be a bit of a possession drag, even if he puts up numbers. I don't think he's poor defensively. It's his neutral zone play and gap control that gives me pause. Coaches have to beat it into him to improve that. With a rod. Him and future Flyer Bean cede the blue line terribly. Ghost and Provy need to show him The Way. |
