Stop crying they aren't getting the first overall pick. Get over it.

My comment was more about not wanting Torontoto get him that wanting the Sabres to get him.

"Incidental contact". So it would be interference penalty, right? This league sometimes...
- Deuce81

No. You can interfere with a goalie on a scoring play without committing a penalty. But interference does not wipe out a goal where the offensive player is pushed into the goalie, which appears to be what happened to Hudson on that replay.

I didn't know you could challenge a no goal call up until now.

The refs standing right there missed both the puck across the line and the contact. Idiots.

I wasn't sure, either, but it make sense the way that goalie interference part of the replay rule is written. It really isn't much different than reviewing a high stick or distinct kicking motion call.

Seems counter-intuitive. If Fasching contacting the goalie disallows the goal, he apparently did something illegal. In that case he should be penalized.

Of course this wasn't the case, but it should be one or the other. Not questioning your explanation, just complaining I guess.

Yeah. The call was definitely wrong. I have no sound at work, so I just assumed the ref never saw it cross the line. I never thought for a second that the interference rule would come into play because it shouldn't have.

Cal O'Reilly is handing them Auston Matthews.
- buffalofan19

Cal OReilly grew up in Lukan Ontario, I think, about 25 miles away from London, Ontario.

So like the no pass interference call because their feet got tangled up? I guess that makes sense. I still don't like it.

You can challenge the goalie interference. It was no goal because of it, if it's not it's a good goal, therefore you can challenge.

Was kind of hoping for the double challenge there. Has there been one this year?

Like the scoring team challenges the interference call negating a goal and wins and then the other team challenges the goal based on missed offside call? That would be a crazy set of circumstances. I have no idea if that's actually happened.

Exactly.

Here's a good blog that outlines the absurdity of the goaltender interference rule. Technically "incidental contact" should be a good goal, but it's a very gray area.

Edit: The ref just didn't explain it enough.
