In a way sure. It's also very misleading.

franson's tradeable at the 2017 deadline...Pysyk has been playing a lot better lately so keeping him in a third-pairing role won't hurt...then there's nelson who looks like he's going to stick next season...

if they can't land that top-pairing d-man, keeping the d intact for one more season will give the prospects, like guhle, another year of growth...

imo, it's very important not to rush any of them

- Michael Pachla

Other than the 1st round pick I wouldn't be surprised if we went heavy with defensemen in the draft. We have some okay guys but not a ton of great talent. Either that or heavy on scoring wingers that can develop for a few years

This reminds me of the Phil Kessel is a 40 goal scorer argument.

The Buffalo Sabres didn't get 25 goals out of Evander Kane. They got 20. Anything else is just fluff. He's a good player, who probably will rarely, if ever score 25-30 because of his injury issues.

His "Per game" stats are relevant. Not his "Per 82 games"

- sbroads24

I don't understand how u aren't getting this...

Do we agree that the point of this conversation is "how good Kane is?"

Bc all u keep mentioning is "games played"
And to me, that's irrelevant
As long as he plays most of the season. It only becomes an issue if he's missing 30 or more games

So for me...
20 goals in 65 games more accurately describes how good Kane is than saying Kane had 20 goals this season
Bc it's how good Kane is when he's in the lineup that matters

20 goals is a decent accomplishment . in 65 games no less. Now compare him to a player that scores 20 in a full 82 games. I would take Kane. Does more with less. Him playing 82 would be hot gravy.

20 goals is third on the team this year...in less games than eichel's 23 and skunk's 22

You're just being ridiculous

Does a player who scores 20 goals in 82 games have the same VALUE, as a guy who does it in 65 games?

Ok, I'll give u that

But it doesn't make him as good of a player

Obviously the guy who does it in 65games is better

And that's the point for me...

Idk why "games missed" is such a huge factor for u

I'm wondering the same thing. You were the one that mentioned how he actually was on a 25 goal pace. Giving him credit for 5 goals that he actually didn't score is what is my issue. Reason being he is never healthy enough to amass those totals.

He's a 7 year vet. This was his 2nd highest goal total of his career at 20.

There has been a considerable amount of rage expressed in these pages, by some of our more excitable hot-tempered slow-witted brethren, about the play of Zemgus Girgensons: those small things, unnoticeable to the eye of the uninitiated fan, that make up a winning style of play, without making it onto the score sheet.

Zemgus has, over the whole of his career, been FANTASTIC with these plays. This year, not so much.

This year, those plays have been made by EKane. When he's on the ice.

Solid B, in my book, between the score sheet and the hardworking forecheck (as an example)

Imagine if Jack and Sam were sent to Rochester. We'd easily be the number 1 team in the rankings for prospects. We just have our top guys in the NHL. I'd be okay drafting a center or two. Let them develop or play them as wingers. From what I recall we have a 1st and a 2nd as well as 3-4 3rds. Those I'd take all wingers and defensemen. A goalie in later rounds, a center or two, then dart board for the rest.

If player A routinely misses time, and player B routinely plays close to a full season, then yes, the value is similar.

We got a lot out of Kane over his 65 games. Guess how much we got out of him over the other 17?
