Hall is a hell of a player, I don't think many can deny
Nugent Hopkins is also a tremendous player who can skate super well.
Yakupov is a train wreck
and McDavid is a star, there is no denying he will be the face of the franchise for years to come.

I sure hope not, I want a proper rebuild. I'm expecting a 5-6 year rebuild. - A_SteamingLombardi
I don't know how to define what management and ownership wants or intends, goals and what would be determined a success.
My guess would be they want to say they will compete for a playoff spot each and every year. Will they, maybe with quite a bit of luck they will, and JB will draft the bpa and try to build up the prospect pool, regardless of where we finish in the standings.
I don't know if the idea of trading for young players that will require waivers to go to the AHL, has been the smartest approach, a few in the lineup maybe, but if they don't perform, there isn't much to do with them.
I believe JB has said he wouldn't be in the market for any high priced ufa's, I am guessing that is just posturing but I still don't understand the strategy.
I have no idea how long this rebuild process will take before we are competitive again... ie, more than a fringe playoff team. |

This is really the crux of it. Like any business, if you want to have long term success, you may go through a period of loss to get to a long-term goal of sustained success. It's not like he has to report quarterly earnings to shareholders. Does he have the vision and the patience to let his team develop the right way? Free agent signings and patch-jobs to simply make the playoffs and mid to late draft picks haven't gotten us to the promised land yet. - we_are_all_canucks
Gains and loses in seasonal earnings are a known in pro sports. No surprises. Got to expect it and plan for it. If not, then Aquaman is not the right owner for this team and is just a fanboy with deep pockets.
If Benning's strength is in armature evaluation then let's hope he gets the best position in the draft to exercise that strength.
I don't expect the players to tank. I expect management to tank and ownership to support the tank knowing that his management team is built as experts in drafting and developing players and a high draft pick in each of the 7 rounds puts the canucks in a position of future success, may it be 3-5 years.

Ok, but can can we agree there is no 'proven' guy. I think the numbers bear that out.
And again... it goes to my theory of these new cap rules.... they need UFAs but will never get any due to no trade clauses. |

If Donald Trump can say that he used the bankruptcy rules to his advantage and turn what most think is a catastrophe into a win.... I think tanking is fine once you have been eliminated.

I would think Hall is a "proven" guy. 324 points in 378 games isn't easy in todays league. Similar production per game to Jamie Benn. |

Yes. Tanking gets a really bad rap considering what else is going on in the world.

I for one have enjoyed your movie review comments. Youre the reason I watched deadpool in fact. Keep it up - SMBDragon
I try and not listen to the movie reviewers online and judge for myself. I did not care for Star Wars at all, loved Deadpool, and thought Batman vs Superman was a 7/10 and worth the price of admission and seeing it in theatres.
Back to Canucks though and Beetle_John:
There is absolutely no garuntee how they will pan out, whether or not a top 3 pick will be a franchise player, or just a good player, or a bust. I think if you look a list of the last 10 drafts, and analyze the skill level and DROP after the top 3 or top 5, its quite astonishing. You can always find hidden gems in the second and third or even 5th rounds, but we have proof that top 3 or 5 picks can alter franchises for the better. My main stink in all of this is just to the people who are coming down on those wanting a tank and a top 3 pick, instead of those who want a tank JUST to see the team in a horrible state. |

only in concept on paper.
then there's real life application and that can be disastrous.
like I said before previously you dont want to turn into TO, oilers or buffalo.
In vancouver and montreals case both were winning. Once injuries hit losing crept in and took a life of its own over time. Now we have several people back and cant win at all. Which then eliminates the injuries excuse for our present. THese teams got used to losing. Period.
That is a space thats difficult to get out of and would never wish it on our team. Winning is the only habit I wish for the canucks. |

To DariusKnight. You are right, but if JB keeps the team closer to the floor instead of the cap ceiling, the money FA saves on wages will equal the money he loses from empty seats. Fans will also pay once there is a clear indication that there is a plan and direction. They just won't pay $200 for nosebleeds. |

When I meant proven... I was talking more about what his trophy case looks like.
I am not denying he is a stud. (See previous circle jerk conversation)
But While Emonton has all these guys on their first contracts, they need to supplement the team with "proven" guys..... but no trade/movement clauses kill that. And to this day I think Pronger was was #1 ass.
