only in concept on paper.
then there's real life application and that can be disastrous.
like I said before previously you dont want to turn into TO, oilers or buffalo.
In vancouver and montreals case both were winning. Once injuries hit losing crept in and took a life of its own over time. Now we have several people back and cant win at all. Which then eliminates the injuries excuse for our present. THese teams got used to losing. Period.
That is a space thats difficult to get out of and would never wish it on our team. Winning is the only habit I wish for the canucks. - SMBDragon
I totally agree Vancouver and Montreal should at least have been wildcard contenders (Montreal more so) if not for injuries.... and maybe a Vancouver coach who just rolls 4 lines like he doesn't understand the rules.

Respectfully, I disagree with you on LA and Pitts. Crosby was the result of a league wide lottery, Fleury is nothing but an above average goalie who plays for a team that can outscore his mistakes. Only Malkin fits the bill.
Although Doughty is a key elemenet to LA, they built up such a huge top 6 through trades... mostly with a charitable Philadelphia. - Beatle_john
You failed to point out that LA also had Quick, Brown, Martinez, King and Kopitar who were massive piece of the team - sure Carter and Richards were big, but those key guys were all LA drafted and within 5 years they had a cup -
same with Pitts - btw Fleury was a huge reason they won that year - so were Stall, Letang, Kennedy, Talbot and Goligoski - guess what they got in common? all drafted by Pitts....you can respectfully disagree all you want - just include ALL the facts next time |

I try and not listen to the movie reviewers online and judge for myself. I did not care for Star Wars at all, loved Deadpool, and thought Batman vs Superman was a 7/10 and worth the price of admission and seeing it in theatres.
Back to Canucks though and Beetle_John:
There is absolutely no garuntee how they will pan out, whether or not a top 3 pick will be a franchise player, or just a good player, or a bust. I think if you look a list of the last 10 drafts, and analyze the skill level and DROP after the top 3 or top 5, its quite astonishing. You can always find hidden gems in the second and third or even 5th rounds, but we have proof that top 3 or 5 picks can alter franchises for the better. My main stink in all of this is just to the people who are coming down on those wanting a tank and a top 3 pick, instead of those who want a tank JUST to see the team in a horrible state. - Codes1087
OH 1000% agree..... NYI were put back a decade with the worst #1 pick of all time while Detroit finds gems in the 5th to keep them in the hunt for a decade.

Right, but the difference is I don't just chime in with insults. I would rather have a discussion or debate about Hockey... as Ithought that's what this was for?! |

When I meant proven... I was talking more about what his trophy case looks like.
I am not denying he is a stud. (See previous circle jerk conversation)
But While Emonton has all these guys on their first contracts, they need to supplement the team with "proven" guys..... but no trade/movement clauses kill that. And to this day I think Pronger was was #1 ass. - Beatle_john
Ah. Understood. Fair assessment. |

While I think we are making the same point on LA... I just didn;t mention more names.... you fill have a hard time convincing me that Fleury is nothing but a slightly above average goalie who was fortunate enough to get on a hot streak in the playoffs one year. Now ---- you have to admit, for everyone who has your opinion on Fleury, there is an equal number who share mine. To me, Pitts should have won more cups and I look to Fluery for that.

I didn't mind Star Wars actually but many people expected it to be better than Empire and Jedi and that just isn't going to be the case. Force Awakens was just too formulaic. Followed the moniker of the first SW almost to a tee.
Agree Batman/Superman was 6-7/10 at best. I thought if people liked the new Man of Steel movie they would warm to this one as the similarities are there but it appears to 50/50 on opinion at best.
Deadpool was outstanding.
Gal Gadot could not be any hotter.

To DariusKnight. You are right, but if JB keeps the team closer to the floor instead of the cap ceiling, the money FA saves on wages will equal the money he loses from empty seats. Fans will also pay once there is a clear indication that there is a plan and direction. They just won't pay $200 for nosebleeds. - Retinalz
If Vancouver were say Calgary or Edmonton or Ottawa or Winnipeg, I'd agree with you. What you have to remember is that the Canucks have a lot of competition in the city for entertainment dollars including the Whitecaps, the Lions, the Canadians (all of whom for the most part are more competitive at this time than the Canucks) and that's not getting into all the other events and things that happen in and around Vancouver that people could go to.
People in Vancouver want a winner, the stands in Rogers Arena generally are packed with fans who aren't real HOCKEY fans and are more into either what's trendy or show up to be seen by others like them. If those fans go, it'll be hard if not impossible to bring them back as the Lions have found to their dismay. It took winning a Grey Cup or two before BC Place started to fill up again and now that they're no longer contenders, it's emptying out again. Whitecaps are starting to win and become contenders in MLS and now they're getting great attendance... do you see the correlation? |

Star wars was like that because of so many new characters, they had to do character development (and still didn't do it right) which takes away from the story.
