Did anyone hear of the April Fools Joke tha the Edmonton Journal did?

Then announced that due to the fact that Edmonton is known for having the best ice in the league.... the paper announced that when the season is over they will be breaking up the ice in Rexall and move it piece by piece in refrigerated trucks into the new building where it will be reconstructed.

When we took the ice out at my rink a few years back we were installing the inline hockey floor on the concrete and it's shipped in 4' squares piled 90" high on skids. It's kind of white/blue looking like ice but one of the coffee shop girls saw us doing it and asked…'how do they cut the ice up into little square sheets like that and stack it that high that is so cool'…so I said…'yeah we have the technology to cut it all apart then reinstall it in the fall…we put it in a giant fridge in the back of the Arena for safe keeping'. She's like…'wow you guys sure are smart'.

Ya, each of those would be a pretty substantial step in the right direction. I don't know if we have enough to make it work though, there will another 20 teams trying for any on of those. Theodore with 2 years left on his ELC is not going anywhere though IMO

I think we can all agree it's weak, but not egregiously because they did give him a playoff game. It's more than 5 and less than 10, we knew they were likely to pick somewhere in that range.

I don't see Theodore being moved because he's a cheap option for them for the next few years. Bieksa and Fowler are $4MM+ each. Clayton Stoner is $3.25MM. Vatanen and Lindholm will both be looking for significant bumps on their next contracts.

If Theodore and Manson are good enough to replace one or more of the more expensive guys, maybe they'll be more willing to move somebody to control costs.

Despres also has a fairly large increase in salary coming up for next year and he will end up at $3.7MM. I assume he's waiver eligible? He looked good when he first came over from Pittsburgh last year but hasn't shown much this season and has been in the minors. Probably not someone the Canucks should be looking at but does his situation force the Ducks' hand even more?

Maybe someone more familiar with that team has a better idea of how this will likely all shake out?

Very weak but expected under Gary. I said 5 and was close. One playoff game is a joke and it should have been 10+. But hey Gary and his merry band of idiots can't have keith out to repeat as Cup champs right?

They are really high on Lindholm, and with good reason. I think it's Fowler or Vatanen, unless they move stoner or Lindholm gets a big OS that Anahiem doesn't match. But affording both Vatanen and Lindholm is going to be a tall order, as Despres new contract kicks in next year.

The charlatans that run the league are fully aware that this perhaps reeks of inconsistency and poor judgment, sets a bad example for player safety and isn't rational relative to other decisions they've issued. However Chicago is one of their 'Darling Markets". They'd have liked to given Keith more, but really their hands were tied.
