He sucked as coach...

He did but he probably would have loved to coach the talent the Isles have now.

I'll take Ted Nolan over Cappy right now.

I'd like to see what he could do with this team. He wrung everything out of that 2006-07 team and played guys on merit (a la 4th line Yashin).

In all fairness they are waiting on the development of their young forwards to have break out seasons but they haven't rushed Pulock so he can learn the ropes.

However the D and lately the goaltending has worn down so they come up as a mid pack team. Skill and talent are a must, but this is the NHL, so the better conditioned mature players are ready at this point of the season.

Also think some of the top players on D and up front are showing a lot of wear like Halak did. Just seems they've done a descent job, but other teams are more motivated and prepared while the Isles look like they are scrambling. Just not sensing that playoff excitement with them.

Nolan got that team to play hard. The word is Nolan is not good with the X's and O's, but I liked him as a coach.I would have liked for Neil Smith and Nolan to get a nice run together.

Now yes but he would have loved similar talent back then to coach. Butchie was not the biggest issue it was lousy owners. Even Pickett got very cheap towards the end.

We knew about this, but it's nice reading something else besides an ice problem article.

im don't defending Bailey, He has made me sick last few games. NO sense of urgency what so ever.

I too am shocked that Cappy called them out. All deserving. They acting like these are pre season games.

This is nothing new for Bailey. He can never say the Isles have not shown all the patience in the world with him.

I think when Butchie was coach, Pickett was long out of the picture. I believe it was the ultra-cheap Milstein/Gluckstern era.

Butchie had some decent young talent to work with (Luongo, Chara, Connolly, Pyatt, Jokinen, Scatchard), but not much else.

I believe Pickett was out John, but the lousy ownership started with him during the end of his run. He did have some good young talent and not much with the vet talent.

I’m still voting for Crawford. He’s put the word out that he’s not going to coach in the swiss league again next season and would even take a job as an assistant coach in the nhl if he can’t find a head coaching gig. I’d love to see him behind the isles bench.

Agreed , although one could argue the Isles have never had good ownership. Remember Boe had the Isles teetering on bankruptcy, and Pickett early on entered into the SMG deal.

Well, there was one smart owner....
