Hasktol had an "earn your spot" approach to training camp, and he didn't earn it. They weren't "hating" on him as much as he didn't warrant a spot. They also called him up above everyone else and have praised his play since. How is that "hating?" - jmatchett383
Speaks volumes that a player with a 6 year 30 million dollar contract didn't earn a spot. |

What channel was Nantz on? I would have rather seen that then listen to the Carolina team call the game on TNT or TBS that I watched on. I kept thinking, "man do these guys realize how unprofessional they sound? Their totally in the bag for the Tar Heels."
It was only after, that I realized that it was their feed. - hockeylover
That's really funny because I did the same thing. I couldn't believe how disappointed they sounded. I thought to myself I've never heard a broadcasting team discuss a championship game like that. They kept showing all the sad fan faces.
Then I realized my mistake too.... |

While I'm no fan of AMac, I do get what he brings to the table and why the coaches would favor him over Medvedev. As Bill pointed out, his neutral zone play is really what hurts his overall game and frustrates me so much.
At the end of the day, on a good team, he is a sold 3rd pair guy. The problem, of course, is the ludicrous contract. If he was signed to deal similar to Schultz's, no one would be complaining.

It will be interesting to see whether Hakstol puts Medvedev with Ghost, or brings back pairings from earlier in the season.
Schultz-Streit
Medvedev-Gudas
Maning-Ghost - Feanor
These will be the likely pairings IMO

Yes, he could be worse. He'd probably be better with the puck, but I'll take the 30+ year old veteran over the kid who's played 0 pro games. - jmatchett383

I guess in fairness, lots of dmen around the NHL wouldn't have been able to beat out Brandon Manning. Tall task. |

Some of it was cap related as well. At the start of the season, they were pretty close to the cap ceiling. Keeping Manning over AMac saved them 300k. It doesn't sound like a lot, but it was likely the difference that allowed them to make a call up if needed.
Look, I'm the last person to defend AMac, he's a seriously overpaid 3rd pair Dman. But, at this moment in time, I'd rather have him in the lineup over Medvedev.

I hate that Medvedev has sat for so long. I get we've been really good since January. Best in the league. However, to me it doesn't warrant getting our capable guys sitting to stay in game shape. MacDonald has been OK but still better than Manning. I'm just hoping Medvedev responds well. |

I feel after a loss (and we have had some) you get a guy who hasn't played in awhile back into the line up. I don't think replacing Manning for Medvedev is going the damage to mojo of the team. I think it might if you wait too long, which Medvedev has sat for along time now. |

Hopefully Medvedev steps up. Of course him being cold isn't going to help anything, which is why I was saying he should have gotten the occasional game down the stretch. It's not news that injuries happen.
Did Hagg underperform this season with the Phantoms? - wolfhounds
This is how I feel. I don't know what it is but Hakstol seems to be drawn to these very vanilla types of players. It wasn't long ago Vandevelde was suspended, so Laughton stepped in. At the very least I didn't think Laughton was awful but Vandevelde was re-inserted. I'm not so sure it's the best idea pushing the same guys and leaving others in small roles anyway, to fester. |

I think, in the coaches minds, it's all about the mix. With Ghost, Streit and AMac in the lineup, that gives you 3 dmen who bring no physicality whatsoever to the game and can all struggle against defending bigger players down low. While Manning is far from the biggest or strongest guy out there, he does bring some grit to the group, and outside of Gudas, that is in short supply on the Flyers D.

I agree that Medvedev should have been getting some games during this stretch.
Laughton is another guy who should not be left on the bench too long. The lack of speed on the 4th line's wings is a real issue. |

Sure would be nice if the Phantoms were going to be in the playoffs. That would give guys like Lindblom, Willcox, Sanheim, Fazleev and NAK even more of a chance to get AHL experience.
Hextall must be looking hard at the coaching staff in Allentown, just like he looked hard at Berube after the Flyers missed the playoffs last season. - Feanor
Im sure hes giving them time. He hired Gordon...he didnt hire Berube |

Pelle Lindbergh was such an upbeat happy go lucky guy who by all accounts never had a bad word to say about anyone. He lit up a room wherever he went.
Its is so sad to see his name disgraced on a day to day basis in these boards. |

Why not give Sanheim a shot at McDonald's spot? Could he be that much worse defensively than Medvedev? Maybe another shot of youth and speed is what this team needs. - ICUBB
was IRT this guy but forgot quotes dont work |
