A number of years ago i heard on a radio sports talk show someone say...
"Character is tested in the face of adversity"
The past 3 games I'd say the kids r showing this & the Sedins embody it.
Quitting is easy but it takes a man to stick it out. - Nighthawk
theyre likely pushing them yes.
I wouldnt be surprised if sedins are acting out though from missing playoffs either. |

an excellent post I found on the net amongst many others
"last year everyone thought that his rolling four lines schtick was good for team cohesion and giving all the young kids a chance. but he really "shocked" everyone by doing the exact same thing in the playoffs. Its like a player that only has one gear, that a player, but a coach is supposed to be a mastermind that gets to really show off his strategic approach game-within-a-game thing in his time to strive...his special skill is supposed to be strategy right? otherwise I can coach! At first I thought he was biding his time and there's this masterful reveal that 1-2-3-4 was his rop-a-dope for Hartley.... but nope..... 123412341234 ad nauseum....
Its like your junior coach came down with the flu this morning and your genial uncle who used to coach peewee is subbing in for him. Its fun and games for a while....
But yeah... fans are more informed and coaches has a lot more concerned eyes to convince. They have to roll with this age of information of advanced stats with fans talking to each other and comparing notes though. He's the wrong coach for this town of rabid informed fans and media. Vancouver is snobby, like when Gollum lost his composure with the anaheim play-by-play guy who kept referring to the Ducks as "We" the other day. When a nice clueless guy arrives here, everyone is just licking their chops and waiting for the right moment..... and Hughson provided the perfect moment for fans and media alike on a national TV timeout."
I like how that poster also states "a coach is supposed to be a mastermind that gets to really show off his strategic approach game-within-a-game thing in his time to strive...his special skill is supposed to be strategy right? " Thats what most fans do not get. Coaches role is to be a strategic mastermind. If you arent you'll get schooled repeatedly. Looks familiar here in van |

I've coached competitive fastball & i had my own style but i always had other gears to use as the opportunity arose. Also sometimes not changing gears is also the way to go & stay the course. Judgement & predicting is a hard skill. That said having an open mind & willing to adjust or seek other ways as the game presents itself is my overall way to coach. I was not always right but right more often than not if i trusted my eyes & knowledge & instincts. When wrong i learned from it & filed it for future uses if or when needed. In the end i was unpredictable & it kept our opponents on their toes cuz i myself did not know what or when i would do something different until that time arrived. As a pitcher keeping the opponents off balance was a very successful approach & i used it in my coaching approach.
Reason i go on as in above is i wonder what WD does likewise. I don't presume he is not a good coach but at times i wonder about his lines or why at times he doesn't ride the kids at times & give more ice time to play thru the tougher stretches. More PP time to allow them to gain confidence is one thing i would like to see. The way the Sedins run the PP is one way to do it but 27th overall PP tells me the kids could do it their way & be less predictable & find some magic. It might ruffle the Sedins feathers but going forward its about success & scoring & they r not the sole offence on the team & we all know secondary scoring is a league wide want for any team. As long as the Sedins get all the PP time we cannot expect better results until the opportunity is spread around. In the Sedins early years they were the 2nd PP unit & its prolly time to go there again in these last 3 games.
My new KID PP:
JM/JV Bo Sven
Hutton Tree
Lets see Tree set up for one timers from BHutt or forwards.
If JV is on wing he can screen goalies or slam rebounds.
If JM he can dance or shoot along with Sven.
Bo is the general & digger & set up man or can shoot when in prime position.
Bo wins FO's the best & is logical to get the PP started.
BHutt is the QB & uses his poise to keep the PK guessing.
This PP unit is solely based on this years roster & others eg Rodin or maybe even Boeser could be next years new look.
Finish up with Sedins when the PK is tired or on their 2nd PK unit. |

Tankers never played a competitive sport in their life where winning was the only reason to play. Not playing to win defeats the purpose of competition by its very definition. Leave tanking to the billionaire owners to mock the game. - Nighthawk
this is a bi-product of socialist ideology and leftist thinking... social engineering has made it so winning and losing doesn't make a difference and everyone should be applauded for simply participating... |

if this forum is only about hockey then I'd think you'd take the same policing approach to other non-hockey specific analogies, comments, metaphors, etc...
or, is it that you specifically would rather I not comment here? You seem to have a very selective approach when criticizing posts here along with one and maybe two other posters here... |

So, let me get this straight...the lack of goaltending, toughness, hitting, secondary scoring, so forth and so on is all on WD from the first round Flames matchup last year? None of it was player personnel and the lack of actual depth on the team?

First of all I was not commenting at you.
Secondly I seldom criticize posts on here.

Build it & they will come.
An idea just came to me....
With all the tantrums & poor sports breaking sticks after a goal i suggest a new penalty named after a known goalie.
The Quick 2 minute Timeout for a Tantrum. - Nighthawk
Add in a $300 fine and I think you might have something there. |

A coach who rarely deviates from his 'roll the lines' approach also happens to be the bench boss for the team with the worst home record in the league. Coincidence?
I don't think they'll fire WD this summer but they damn well better have a chat with him about some improved strategies and systems. |

Let's worry about changing the roster and personnel and getting the right players in place...then we can worry yet another coaching change. |

Best thing about only 3 games left is won't have to read about tankers wanting losses after game 82 is in the books. FYI it has very little bearing on luck & where we draft. In my books tankers r not fans at all. - Nighthawk

Good teams dictate the play, force the opposition to match them. I want the team to build a roster that can roll the lines and let the other team worry about matchups, not tread water by salvaging an OT point here because a coach double-shifted the Twins for half the game |

VANTEL, i wasn't picking on your comment, just Marwood selectively pointing out perceived issues with my comment in a biased manner.
i have no problem with anyone posting whatever they want any myriad of topics. i just don't like being singled out for opprobrium, but would prefer if someone is going to act like a policeman that they do so in an even handed manner... |
