So, let me get this straight...the lack of goaltending, toughness, hitting, secondary scoring, so forth and so on is all on WD from the first round Flames matchup last year? None of it was player personnel and the lack of actual depth on the team?
- LordHumungous
no, it's not on WD at all. I just want the guy to exercise some in game maneuvers and adjustments to get the best match ups possible for the team when that's the advantage of home ice, which is what Craig Simpson was alluding to in his indictment of WD coaching style.... |

Let's worry about changing the roster and personnel and getting the right players in place...then we can worry yet another coaching change. - LordHumungous
I didn't say change the coach. I said get the coach to fix his errors. When that happens a lot of the issues with the current personnel will also improve. But a coaching change and roster moves aren't mutually exclusive options. |

VANTEL, i wasn't picking on your comment, just Marwood selectively pointing out perceived issues with my comment in a biased manner.
i have no problem with anyone posting whatever they want any myriad of topics. i just don't like being singled out for opprobrium, but would prefer if someone is going to act like a policeman that they do so in an even handed manner... - kaptaan

Dale Tallon has been critized in the past, for multiple reasons, but IMO he's a very good builder, something for Benning to aspire to!
He's done well with drafting, UFA signings and trades. |

the guy has done wonders since joining Florida. and it's not like all those players and prospects were just sitting there waiting for him... he made the moves to get the picks, prospects and players that have turned it around for the team. |

He left Chicago in pretty good shape and has built a nice core for FLA in a short time frame. I really like what he has done. |

Picking Barkov and Ekblad was huge for that team! Trading for Luongo also huge! |

Hughson wasn't the guy, it was Craig Simpson who said, "you're losing because the coach isn't coaching..."
WD made it easy for Hartley who essentially knew what WD was going to do with every line, so Hartley got all the match ups he wanted... - kaptaan
that is very correct.
and if you watch video or it you see what hartley did along the boards too for puck recovery as vancouver was so predictable.
THAT is an example of how a tweaker coach will win every time in a playoff series. |

A coach who rarely deviates from his 'roll the lines' approach also happens to be the bench boss for the team with the worst home record in the league. Coincidence?
I don't think they'll fire WD this summer but they damn well better have a chat with him about some improved strategies and systems. - YeOldTimer
exactly
its funny how some people on here will not blame a coach when a team collapses like this yet credit the coach for "guiding them to the _round of PO." |

BUT the point is, why bother focusing on getting a coach that cant coach in the playoffs when the roster cant get to the playoffs anyways? Rolling 4 lines works pretty well in regular season, keeps the guys fresher, but Babcock, Coach Q, Hitch, etc. werent getting this team into the playoffs so why throw more adversity on the young guys?
I am not a supporter of WD, but he has done a good job with Horvat, Sven and the other young guys. Keep that going and when they can carry the team towards the playoffs, WD can be more on the hotseat |

I NEVER say its ALL on WD.....ever. THere are many factors....and many other coaches that are to blame as well. This year injuries had a decent sized hand in our dismal finish. I always say the coaching staff sucks.....and also acknowledge injuries and weak areas on the team. But while we are improving the team, dont we want to improve all those weak areas?
Coaching is an exceptionally weak area on this team, youd think youd want to upgrade it with everything else. |

lol no doubt. Honestly if it were up to some on here there would be a coaching change every season regardless of how deep we went in the PO's. Sure WD has defeciencies like any other coach but my god give the guy a chance to work them out. With WD's championship records in Med Hat and Texas I think many here thought we would have a cup by now but man with all the injuries, infusion of youth, zero depth or offense on D, sporatic goaltending, stale core so forth and so on hanging WD out dry makes no sense. With a Healthy club and a few sharp moves and a good draft I'd bet WD has this club back in wild card contention for next season. Where a lot of these anti-coaching guys are going to be eating their hats. |

Exceptionally weak is a bit strong of a comment. I have played for a lot of coaches, from Memorial cup winners to my friend's dad, and they all teach the same X's and O's. The difference between winners and losers often comes down to who can execute better. The coach tells guys where to be and what your first, second and third options are and the player has to be able to recognize and move the puck. When you look at the defense of the Canucks, Bart/Weber/Biega/etc. all make awful decisions when better ones are available, that isnt on anyone else but them |

Umm... Willie won the Mem Cup and Calder Cup in his second seasons with those teams, so clearly we are not wrong to have higher expectations than a lottery team |
