lehner got dinged up twice this season
not sure bubble boy is the 1A needed in net
he has proven capable of being in a split goalie rotation though - homiedclown
I don't think this is true.
I think he got hurt once - in a freak thing related to a rut in the ice - and it never really healed right. I believe the surgery is the more invasive corrective approach they didn't really want to take in season. |

I agree. Lehner has to stay healthy for a whole season before I feel good about having a lesser backup. By the way, I applied for another job in Vegas. Hoping this one finally gets me out there. - Pierceme69

You like Rotowire, right?
Though the Sabres are already eliminated from playoff contention and won't feel the effects of this loss, Lehner's fantasy owners will be hurting after the 24-year-old goaltender's strong performances this season. Lehner was acquired to be the team's bona fide No. 1 goaltender, and he has been just that. Though he was limited to just 21 games due to injury, Lehner posted a 2.47 GAA and .924 save percentage while playing for one of the league's weakest teams. |

+1. That being said, it's true that he didn't play as much as we would expect if we gave up a 1st. If that's a one year thing and a freak injury like we think then that fine, no harm no foul. Better it happened this year than next. If it was just one of many to come, well, we'll see what the plan is. |

Devil's advocate, it's like saying that a guy is a number 1 guy because he has a great 82 game pace when he only plays 20 games.
My big takeaway is that, to me, this was more of a freak injury that could have happened to anyone. Just so happened to be the guy under the microscope. |

Yes and No.
Players and Goalies cannot really be compared in this. Goalies get better the more they play, so for him to come back, and not be 100%, and play the way he was is pretty telling of what he can do.
With players, a guy can score 5 or 6 goals in a 10 game stretch and disapear for a long time or not play so those stats get skewed.

Good points. It was said before that Lehner, even when he was playing well, wasn't at 100% of his speed and power. If that's true I can't wait to see him fully rested and ready to go. |

Picking in the top 5 guarantees nothing. Odds are the player that is picked is not NHL ready unless you are taking Matthews. At this stage I would rather appreciate the players we suffered to get and relish in the fact that we've gone from the WORST last place team in the modern era to a respectable mediocre team in what some would view as a quick turnaround. I trust the process. I trust Murray. If I had to put money on it I would guarantee we are not going to use that first round pick. Winning meaningless games is subjective. Meaningless to who? Those young core pieces in the locker room that you want to lead us to the promised land are gaining invaluable confidence and poise. Winning now translates to winning next year. Good games/bad games/ boring games it's all the same. This is how you establish winning culture. You can't have it both ways. Edmonton fans are still "showing off" that they're (hockey gods willing) getting another first overall pick. Not calling you out specifically. We just have to enjoy it.
P.S. - potential UFAs take notice to the standings. - 50GinosIn07
Bingo - you get it and we're not reliant on the pick like we used to be - GMTM will make a trade or two to put this team over. He basically said it in his wgr interviews, for all we know he may have a trade parameter already worked out.
Homie - Risto does has some work to do to be a true #1 dman, but, if he can play consistently like he did last night he will. He was absolutely dominant is his own zone last night.

call me crazy, but an afterthought, chad johnson, has a better gaa and a winning record this season
I think this team can plug and play anyone with half a hockey pulse in net and the numbers won't change much

Would be nice if the numbers got better but I agree. I don't ever want to pay top buck for a goalie ever again. |

Lehner looks like a #1 when even semi healthy. He could be a stud if he gets it all together after surgery. It's just still an unknown |

It also is ammo to add at the deadline or in the offseason. - sbroads24
I can't stand gmtm trading any more prospects cuz half the folks here go on and on about how we overpaid and have no prospect depth, even though we do.
We have the prospects...not happy we don't have elite talent
We don't have prospects....not happy cuz the cupboard is bare.
Come on get happy!
Kaiser puts up maybe the best post of the year pointing to positives, and you just grumble non-fuking stop. |

Well, I think it's just the gap that most people are worried about. We have elite prospects, they're called Eichel and Reinhart. It just we don't have any really high touted prospects in the system, the closest are Fashing and Bailey and they aren't top-half first rounders like what people want to see, but that doesn't mean they aren't good.
But, thankfully the rosters for the next few years is almost set, which means the guys that we do have in the system can slowly develop like the way Detroit manages their system. Plus having 22 picks of the next two years will allow some gems to be found also.

Armia at one point was top 25.
I didn't like that they were moved, but having guys of that caliber give you options.
Like someone mentioned earlier, to sustain success you need guys ready to fill in at any time |
