this was year 9 for us
- homiedclown

yes and no.. it wasn't 9 years of bottom of the league. We instead went 6 years of fighting for the last playoff spot and 3 years of complete suckage

2 years in the basement (13-14, 14-15), 1 year of falling (12-13), 1 year of rising (15-16). 5 years of infuriating mediocrity (07-12). That really adds up to an honest 4 year rebuild. We're already better than Edmonton since 2008.

this team is young and will only get better. They guys that didn't produce consistently or at all are on the 3rd and 4th line. I'm really not worried about them. Plus gmtm has already shown in his short time here that he will make big moves to get players. I have faith in him that he will improve this team in the offseason.

The only negative I take from this year is zemgus regressing and ennis missing almost all year. Adding a healthy ennis is like signing a good free agent during the offseason.

- Smittyx36

I like the Ennis point. He is a big-time wild card here. If he isn't traded and returns to form that will be a huge boost. Having said that, I could see another team wanting him, despite his "issues" this year.

It doesn't matter how many #1 picks they had. They now have the 1 that matters. They are in great shape for that reason alone.
- buffalofan19

Does it matter? Because as of last night they have 2 more goals than they had all of last season with one game left. So a half a year of McDavid, a new coach, a new GM, and all their new pieces and the result is an extra 2 goals? They have the big piece but they aren't winning with him. Until they actually do something, and I don't mean a cup or even playoffs but maybe improve your team at all, they have squat.

If they win the lotto they'll take Matthews and trade someone else. If they pick 2,3,4 I'd think they'd trade the pick for a defenseman.

We did make the playoffs... I get that we weren't a legit contender but it's better than 8 years at the bottom getting top pick after top pick and still being terrible. Realisticallythe rebuild started when we traded pommer. So 3 years ago? That's all it took for us to completely blow it up and rebuild. That's pretty impressive. It's very realistic to expect playoffs next year as well.

Well even if we trade him we will most likely add a key piece. Could be a top 4 d guy. I just hope he isn't completely screw2d like Timmy C was after the concussions

This. Whether we trade him or keep him it's like adding a piece for nothing. Since we only had him for a tiny bit of the season and have done okay without him it'll be interesting to see what we do with him or with what he brings. Biggest thing about Ennis this year is that with how bad he was he had almost .5 P/g which is about his career average. Plus, he wasn't the only one struggling to gel at that point in the season.

Analogy: You pay your bills and you look at your bank account and it's okay but not great. Then you reach in your pocket and you have 20 bucks. Now you have that OK bank account and another 20 bucks.

It hasn't been stated yet, but the Sabres do not have to give the Senators their 7th round pick this year. With only 2 games left Schnider can't hit the 3 games needed for that condition to happen.

I do not understand everyones point of "we have had an easy schedule the last 2 months" You think so? We are playing teams that are desperatley trying to get into the playoffs and beating them. The NYR could of clinched if they beat us, detroit was going all out to make the playoffs for 25 straight years. We took a team that is dominating EVERYONE in the league right now to OT. Does no one pay attention to that? Do we only focus on the negatives? Jesus Christ people. Are young kids are clicking together and winning games. BE (frank)ING HAPPY! After the last 2 years you would think that watching the Sabres actually win games would be enjoyable for some of you cry baby wieners. 7-2-2 in the last 11 while teams are fighting for playoffs and we are STILL female doging. Its unbelievable.

Cold weather makes everyone miserable, this team is generating energy/excitement that you can feel when you watch them. Let's stay on track, Sabres fans do not know what it's like to win it all, so an unknown excitement is something to follow.

And there is a chance he holds out this year if we pick a a qb in the draft, or at least Paul Simon said it on the radio.

So damn pessimistic. I guess we could be yearly basement dwellers like the Oilers and be disappointed every year with #1 overall picks. The guys we tanked for are a very big reason why we aren't finishing at the bottom. The tank worked. Everything is working. Almost a 30pt increase from last year. You gotta get off that tank wagon and join the rest of us.
- Smittyx36

It's not pessimism ............ it's simply NOT buying into a strong three week run at the end of the season and unequivocally assuming we are just a player or two away from becoming a power.

I for one am absolutely excited about the future and I have tremendous faith in GMTM, the coaching staff and the core that is in place. What I don't have faith in is the complementary players that pile up a lot of minutes and have not produced over an 82 game schedule. I'm referring to pretty much all of the bottom 6 forwards and anyone on defense not named Bogs or Risto.

What I hang my hat on is that GMTM is way too smart and won't be swayed by any late season burst in wins to sway his vision for the future.
