Being the position they are in, to miss the playoffs would be a collapse. You have to take expectations from the beginning of the season out of the equation now, because it doesn't matter. I think the NHL playoff calculator has them at 80% to make it. - PLindbergh31
It would suck, but I wouldn't consider it a collapse because they have been trying to claw their way up into the playoffs. It's not like they've been in a playoff position all year and are in danger of being knocked of a position. |

probably the truth...we will make sure to rationalize it either way though - YuenglingJagr
Then we can talk all summer about whether it was worth it for them to just miss, or would it have been better to tank for a higher pick.

It would be a collapse given their play and record going back to the new year. |

No way! Homer is a dumb-dumb head and set this organization back 20 years. Hextall for president. He's done so much!!!! - steelydan
Well the one and only trade he has gotten flak for still has tremendous potential to turn up roses. Hartnell scratched again recently and 3 more years left. 114 PIM this season isn't something that's missed. |

So if you had to choose between being eliminated by the Leafs or Wings, which would it be? |

I understand that, but purely from a mathematically probability, it would be. I'm looking at it strictly from their current position in the standings. 3 teams for 2 spots, Wings/Bruins play each other, and the Flyers have a game at home vs. the worst team in the NHL, as well as against an Islanders team who is crippled on the blueline, and down to Greiss/Berube. |

it would just be unfortunate how it ended up...either way there is still a very good chance they make it in |

would most certainly be a collapse. |

I think they make it for sure. Then from there it's all gravy. Making the playoffs this year puts them ahead of schedule. |

Common sense would acknowledge that to be the case. If they don't make it you will see people trying to rationalize it, instead of just taking it for what it is. That said, I think they make it. |

So, looking at each team's schedule, I think it's pretty likely the Islanders and, possibly, the Penguins rest some of their players. It would benefit the Islanders to stay 4th in the Metro and be the 1st wild card than finish 3rd in the metro. They'd want the Flyers to secure the 2nd wild card, which would push them into the Atlantic for their first and second round matchups. |

Doesn't really matter who finishes in the second wild card spot. The 1st wild card is playing in the Atlantic. The 2nd plays the team with the best record. That's Washington in the Metro. |

I thought it was only if both teams from the same division make it as the wild cards |

I think the Flyers are playing with house money just getting into the playoffs, so if they can make Washington sweat in the first round, I'm cool with that. The Flyers have played them pretty tough. I have no delusions that the Flyers can keep up with them in a 7 game series, but I think they will make Washington work for it. |
