And on the Duchene thing, there are only a couple of real solutions.

1. Move him to wing permanently. I love him as a scorer, but he is not an elite C. He cannot compete with Getzlaf, Thornton, Towes, etc.

2. There are only a few trades that really make sense. This means there is cap space, there is a need for a 2nd line C on the team, and they have the assets to move:

- The Ducks & Fowler
- Islanders & Hamonic
- Everyone mentions Subban but I cannot see MTL doing that trade
- Totally crazy but Duchene + Barrie + ? for Ekblad (ok i put my drink down)

I think the Ducks trade is really the only one that makes any kind of sense for both teams.

Its madning how bad he has become (he never was really good) but this year he doesn't seem to skate at all, constantly being flat footed.

Gelinas has the same issues but he at least has some pedigree to him that he has a little ability to recover, but he has that shot on the PP which you start to forgive for his lack of mobility.

I think Gelinas will be such a huge improvement over Holden next season with an offseason of training.

I don't think you solve this with a trade.

We have to face the fact our D is garbage. Our number 1 is EJ and on some other teams he is 3-4 pairing. We need our D prospects to mature. Bigras looks promising, but we need more than that. You can't get a top d man in a trade without giving up a ton.

Mack needs a big year next year. This will be the season where he shows us that he is an elite scorer or just a good player. Rantanen should help, but we can't expect him to come in and be a force.

In goal is where we seem pretty set. Varly had an injury and drama year. Picks is the real deal. Sadly you can't get anything in a trade for a goalie so might as well keep them both.

Roy needs to take those Stanley cup rings out of his ears and listen to the criticism or start pounding down the glass between the benches every night.

I see Barrie being the first core piece being moved if we tap into that group. Avs are a budget team and if he is seeking more than $6 million he will get the O'Reilly treatment and go to arbitration as we look to move him.

I'm all in on grabbing Taylor Hall out of Edmonton and then upgrading the defense through free agency and giving Bigras, Zadorov, and even Siemens a shot if he can ever get to the level of expectations of a #11 overall pick. Siemens is most likely a bust or bottom pairing D based on his development thus far, but maybe he'll be a late bloomer and exceed expectations.

MacKinnon will sign a bridge deal this summer. All this talk about him signing a long-term deal is delusional. I'll bet he goes for 2 years at $4 million and then cashes in once Iginla and Beauchemin money has been made available.
