Not sure if any of these guys specifically will, but draft history shows that somebody usually does start slipping by pick 4. I'm sure one of the teams that pick ahead of us will have somebody else like du Boise higher up on their board. Plus with Chychrun and Joulevi, given the known teams that will be picking in front of us, are there definitely two teams that need to go defense? Edmonton is one, but if their picking #2 overall they're not going defense. So who else goes with a defense pick? - sskkoo1
It's simpler than that.
The reason they fall is because of uncertainty. |

Eh. Gionta is off the books after next year. I think he hangs it up at that point. Maybe stays in the organization in some way as a player development coach or something.
Moulson is going to be hard to move because he makes a ton of money and has 3 years left and a NTC on top of it. - HonkFortheGoose
Although Moulson has a NTC...
His options might be to accept a trade anywhere we could send him
Or
Go down to Rochester
His NHL days may be over if he insists on remaining here

So wings are out ? That sucks. wanted them in because of the Leafs/Badcok factor. |

I watched him a couple weeks ago on ice tracker from the Sabres site during a game. He looked lost out there and was lucky to even skate to get to the puck. Was a shame really. |

True. But regardless the reason, for the most part it looked like there were about six players we could really use next year: Matthews, Puljujarvi, Laine, Tkachuck, Chychrun, and Joulevi. I would be happy with draft any of these guys. If we pick seventh, than all we need is for somebody, anybody else, to sneak in the top six for us to be able to grab one of these players. I'm confident it could happen. |

Why do you think they fall? - Der Kaiser
Well if we pick 7th, that's only 1 spot for ONE of those guys to slip
Nylander or Dubois could be of interest to a team that high |

I want them out! Detroit is a great organization, but there are kids in Detroit who have been drinking in bars for years now who have never known their team to not make the playoffs. Time to take a seat with the rest of us schlep, Detroit. |

Good point. I still don't know that I like the idea overall. I guess I have an issue with him wanting Toews money when he has nowhere near the hardware Toews does. - HonkFortheGoose
No one has that kind of hardware...
But Stars are gonna get paid top dollar
U also gotta remember, Toews & Kane signed those deals a couple years ago now
If Stamkos was re-upped then, he'd get more like 8.5mil
The prices will always keep going up |

He had a very severe groin tear. They finally spilled the beans on it, but it was fairly recent. Missing all of camp and then the first month and a half of the season takes a toll on a player. His timing was way off. He seemed like he was always one step behind. Once he got into a rhythm, he's been much better. But for awhile there, he was pretty much downright brutal. Glad to see he was able to rebound though. - HonkFortheGoose
I have no doubt his injury is why he was so bad to start. Issue with him is its a reoccurring theme. With how he's played lately it's definitely reassuring that he can be a good player though |

If Philly wins their last 2, they're in
If Detroit wins their last game, they're in
If Boston wins their last game, they need either Philly or Boston to get any type of loss
Had to edit that
I had Detroit & Boston mixed up |

My point is the uncertainty compels a wise investor to use that value differently, to acquire a more reliable return: such as by trading the pick (probably in a package) for a known young stud.

I believe NHL Center Ice is in free preview mode if anyone wants to watch the end of the Coyotes game.
They're up 2-1 with about 7min left |

I have seen glimpses of him playing well...
But besides the foot speed, his confidence is clearly shot
If he can't find a way to get his head straight he's done for
I really hope there's a team that'll give him another shot though
A change of scenery could help him rebound |

One of our 3rds could also be enough to move us up a spot or 2
I too have the cut off at those six
If they're gone & we pick 7th, I'm not sure who I'd take
I'd prob lean towards the Russian defenseman, Sergachyov
I haven't seen him play other than highlites,
But he looks like the real deal from everything I've read about him
He's shot up the ranks for a reason |

Absolutely, there is an opportunity cost associated with every decision you can make. Maybe a team ahead of us does feel that the value of their asset (pick) is outside of the draft itself. Maybe Tim Murray is that guy who feels the greatest return on our investment isn't in the draft but in sending our pick + other assets to a team like Anaheim for Linholm, that would be great. Lots of variables, lots of hypotheticals, but if we are strictly talking about making the selections, than I do believe that one of the consistently talked about six players at the top of the draft order will slip at least one spot to us at seven. |

I think a 3rd can only move us up one spot, and only if we can prove we we're not going to take that teams selection, kind of like what Darcy did in the Myers draft.

Probably right
But that still gets us 1 of the top6 group
The more I read about this Russian kid, the more I want to make it a top7 though
Nylander could also arguably make it into that grouping as well
Definite cut off after that IMO |

Mikhail Sergachyov does sound like a solid pick, but lets face it, Murray is not taking a Russian. Joulevi I think is his Defense target, another big Finn to pair with Risto for the next decade.

Best case scenario IMO is one similar to ROR, where a player (Preferably young) has priced himself out of his current team.
