they're ranked 15th in goals-against with a new system and without that type of d-man...not saying they don't need one, but i'd rather keep the pick and see what they've got for another season - Michael Pachla
Parking the bus for an entire period has more to do with this than they're actual defense. They give up a lot of high danger scoring chances and have a very difficult time getting the puck out of their own end (though the forwards seem to be a major source of this problem too). I dont think they can wait because a year from now they may not have a valuable enough asset to get that d-man. Right now you can trade 9th overall + for him, next year can you convince a team to take your secondary prospects and the 19th pick in the draft? |

I still can't believe the best team in the league traded for Mike Weber |

If you can get a top 2 defenseman for that pick (in a package but the pick at the center) I say you do it. That or try and trade up. If neither of those things can happen, sure you take the pick. Here's my thought, you're going to use the pick and hope he becomes a top 6 player or a top 4 defenseman. If you can get that guaranteed you're trading a bit of potential for the known. |

johan Larsson, 23 yrs. old, bounces between Rochester and Buffalo for three seasons, full time Sabre this year--141 NHL games played, 16 goals, 21 assists, .262 points per game
or Zemgus Girgensons, 21--one season in Rochester three in Buffalo, 200 games played, 30 goals, 40 assists, .350 points/game
or Marcus Foligno, 24, who bounces between Rochester an buffalo for two seasons before landing with the Sabres full time--265 games, 35 goals, 57 assists, .351 points/game - Michael Pachla
I would take any of the three sbroads mentioned over these three, and that's considering how well they have played down the stretch. |

And if our GM is a "Genius" as some has touted him as, then those should be avoidable. - sbroads24
You're comparing random hits over several franchises by different GMs. Odds are always low for a draft pick to hit, no matter how much of a genius a GM is. |

i'm with you to an extent, but i'll pose the question, who'd trade a top-two d-man for a 2016 pick that could end up being in the 8-10 overall range? |

The team that can't afford to keep him because of the cap
The team that can't afford to keep him because of an internal budget
The team that's about to go through a rebuild
It will take some convincing and perhaps in terms of value an overpayment but it will be worth it in the long run.

I don't think anyone will make that trade...teams tend to think of top-two d-men as core players whom they'll invest heavily in to keep...
unless they get lucky, which could happen, drafting and developing one may be the only way for buffalo to land one |

what's an overpayment?
the Lehner trade was an overpayment and murray got crucified...before kane and bogo began playing like they could, that package was considered a massive overpayment |

Yes and Im sure someone will crucify him for this until they see him play and then it will be a genius move when in reality the truth is somewhere in the middle. |

For all 3 it would be too expensive of a 3rd line IMO. Do you think that line would total under 6m total? Cause that is what i would want the total 3rd line salary at. - CoHo_to_B-Lo
I don't know. They're all on their first real (not ELC) contracts, right?
Do any of them have any serious leverage to demand a lot of money?
Even Foligno, who has the most experience, has had ups and downs. I don't think the other two have a leg to stand on.
If we could lock them all up for 2-ish/year for 3 years, they will DEFINITELY be playing for that next contract. Thats exactly where i want my 3rd line to be, striving for more money and ice time. Also keep in mind that we will be totally off the hook on Eichel and Rhino for a few more years and ROR & Kane are already factored on the books.

They aren't that random for the good teams
Dylan Larkin
Robbi Fabbri
Jaeden Schwartz
Vlad Tarasenko
Brandon Saad
I could go on and on.
My point is how much would it take to pry one of the aforementioned "Young studs" away from their current team? Now how much would it cost to draft and develop them internally?
The "We don't need anymore picks" narrative is a bad one |

hope so...fact is, we're probably jumping the gun as we don't even know where they'll drafting and who will be available...
if murray can pull off a trade for a top-two d-man that includes a lottery protected 2016 first round pick, he'll jump on that opportunity and the sabres will be better off for it...
just don't think that it's feasible without throwing in one or two upper-level prospects in addition to that pick...and in that instance, not sure if the prospect pool could handle a hit like that |

Tanner Pearson 30th overall
14 goals 34 points playing bottom 6 minutes.
Will probably be a 18-20 goal scorer once they lose Gaborik/Versteeg etc. |

It's not, which is why taking Chychrun or Joulevi might be the best option (if they are there)
Fact is this team desperately needs an impact defender.
I'm more sold on the forward group x10
Which is amazing how fast Murray (and our tank) turned that around |

At 9th overall, you may end up getting neither. It would be a steep price and I would rather keep all those picks for the same reasons you mentioned. I just don't see another way for them to get a sure fire top 2. |

If you live in Manhattan, or LA, and you insult Buffalo, i understand. When you live in New Jersey or Detroit and insult Buffalo you are a Jackass who has never left your inbred, worn out, nasty, hooker filled streets.
I have been all over the country and world. There are very few places i would rather be than my house in Clarence. I have farms and country setting, and malls and city all within 15 minutes. Can't beat it. Only place i would leave to go to would be San Diego. Love it there(besides being that close to the border) - CoHo_to_B-Lo

I mean you could but we've come all this way and made significant moves to do so, doesn't seem prudent to bet on either of them becoming that. |
