"3) Regardless of how the Red Wings and Bruins fare, if the Flyers beat both Pittsburgh and New York, they are in the playoffs."
If you told me in October that I would be reading this in Bill's blog after 80 games, I would have taken it. |

So if they get into the playoffs and go on to win the Stanley Cup that wouldn't surprise you? - PLindbergh31
I think they could if they got in |

Devastating? No. Major case of blue balls? Yes. |

Isn't every team physically spent at this time of year. I know the Flyers have had a number of back to backs but there is no excuse to come out and loose a must win game against the last place team. Maybe if they worked their butts off the 2 previous games against the Pens and Wings and came up with wins... I could see a possible emotional dip in performance .
I agree. Give Mason a rest. Suit Neuvirth up for Saturday. And would Jake Voracek please show the (Frank) up! - 3flyerkids
It's not just that they are tired, but lets face it, they are being asked to overachieve and that's very difficult to do for an extended period of time. On paper, this is not a playoff team. They are a 2 line team, and lack any top pair Dmen. Look at the Chicago vs St Louis game last night. Any of the top 3 Dmen on both of those teams would be #1 on our depth chart last night. I think that the Flyers top players are either out of gas (Giroux, Ghost and Streit) or not anywhere near 100% (Voracek). They just don't have the horses to win with sheer talent and it's very hard to win every game by outworking your opponent and having your goalie stand on his head.
No matter how they finish, they've exceeded my expectations for this season and I can't wait to see how this team develops over the next few seasons.

It would.
But every team other then the one that wins the cup gets devastated in one way or another.
Imagine the caps lose in the first round. Played great all season to end up with nothing.

It will be heartbreaking for sure. However, I will still look back on the season as a major step in the right direction for the franchise. |

It's not likely, but you never know what can happen. That is why it would suck for them to go on the great run, and collapse in the last 10 days. |

Flyers future looks bright now just draft a big strong Tufte left winger |

It would suck but they've proved a lot this year. No one can be dissappointed when it's all said and done |

LW or C would work for me. They really need one more quality, good all around center to compliment Giroux and Couturier in order for them to take the next step to being a solid playoff team and a legit contender. I like Cousins, but I think his future is as an agitating 4th line C who can step up on the 3rd line when needed and Laughton, IMO, would be better off on the wing.

At the end of the day, if you don't make it, what did they prove besides the fact that they are a bubble team? |

The Leafs were on a 4 game losing streak, and they were dismantled the night before by the Blue Jackets at home. I think it's a myth that they have been playing well. |

Are you just trying to rile people up or what? Theyve proven nothing from a standings perspective...but how they got there is very much different than years past. When Holmgren blew up the last core, he got several pieces with the hopes they would develop into a better and more balanced team. I think it is clear that hasnt been the case and over the Flyers best stretches this season, they have shown depth. It is still a work in progress, but players the Flyers NEEDED to develop and play well have certainly done that |

I think you need to not pay attention to who beat who recently by how many. Things change and all that matters is how each team is playing when the puck drops. The Flyers did not play well enough in the beginning and by the end it was evident they were the better team |

Your right.
But the Flyers are on a different path then the Rangers. The Flyers finally have a direction and have seemed to finally forged an identity.
The Rangers window to win is now. The Flyers window, while this ride is nice, isn't really until about the 2017-18 season.
I think this team has shown some nice things that make the future exciting. |

Well they've at least shown that they have a young core that is improving and that they aren't a complete dumpster fire that will need 5 years to rebuild. They'll get some great youth help next year probably and should build on this season.
I didn't expect them to make the playoffs this year and for them to even be in the discussion is a revalation IMO. Even if they sneak in, which I don't believe they will now. they'll get trounced. |

Before that stretch there had been some games that they surprisingly won. I can go back and look at their sched. Beat Detroit on the road and some others. It's not an excuse but also they played us tough this year.
