I think we are looking for different answers, we just can't change all of the answers at once.
Look at the roster turnover, it's real.
It might be painful for you and others but there is a real possibility that Hamhuis is the best we can do for our back end in free agency, and that's before we factor in a discount.
In general, there aren't a whole bunch of big time D that are available July 1. If there was one in his mid-late twenties, i'd be all for backing up the Brinks truck to his door. - golfingsince
If Bennings best answer to improving this year with all the cap space he has is to bring back an old, point unproductive , non physical Dman , then he needs to be fired.
You have 20 mil and your answer is Hamhuis? Wow.
We have been going back and forth for years, let's make a friendly wager. If Hamhuis is signed by Canucks I donate 20.00 to jumpstart . If he is not signed by Canucks You will. |

You know why I would fire him?
If he spent all of the money vastly overpaying for marginal upgrades or even worse a downgrade and then when someone of value did become available in the future we couldn't obtain them because we were cap-strapped.
Good value is good value, no matter how unexciting it is. Poor value is poor value, no matter how exciting it is.
One of the main differences in this discussion is that you are dealing in absolutes and I am not. I'm not saying you absolutely have to bring the guy back. I'm just saying don't be surprised if he's on the roster in September because he's the best value out there.
Edit: Sure, i'll donate $20 if they don't sign him. |

I agree. On this note, it might be worth waiting until next year when Burns, Hedman, Shatenkirk, Alzner and Del Zotto are available. If we can sign hammer for a home town discount of 2-3 mil, it is good value for sure. We're not going to be competitive next year, best to plan for the long haul and keep some cap space for a better player |

I highly doubt he signs for 2-3 million for 2 years. 2 @ 4 or 3 @3 and I think he'd accept.
I'd love to be wrong however. |

Don't be too sure. I lost to Lefty last year and this year. It was closer this year though |

Ok, this was fun but it's 01:30 here and I have to take a train 250 miles in about 4 1/2
hours. I'd better get some more sleep. |

My hands are pretty tied on this one. Although I'm gearing towards Hamhuis signing. Oh and I'm a student the online thing I could donate is my blood or kidnies. |
