Demko told Benning he needs "few weeks" to talk to Family and friends regarding turning Pro or going back to Boston College for final year. The fact that he is contemplating makes me think he will go back for his final year. - Codes1087
That would be pretty brutal if he doesn't sign...we can't afford to lose the kid |

I dont want to hit the panic button and assume he pulls a vessey but I think if he wanted to go Pro, he would have made that choice. |

I dont think we should worry. There was a story posted about how hard he worked to get to the NHL, telling his mom he would make it worth all his and her effort. He comes across as very loyal and hardworking, so I would be a little surprised if he went back, but I cant see him not playing for Vancouver after BC |

I'm confident he will sign shortly. He has no reason not to. I'm never wrong |

I think he will have more opportunities to explore. Vancouver needs skilled forwards, but the LW is Daniel, Sven, Etem, Higgins and maybe Gaunce. Its not the best group of LWers but for a guy coming out of college and needing top 9, I think he at least looks around. I still have a good feeling about him and Van, but I wouldnt count on it. Nor would I count out Chicago, or a team in the east like NJ - WhiteLie
Well we never know the skillset of a particular individual until they actually get a chance at the NHL level...and personally I'm not taken with Etem (listed as RW) or Higgins, Kennis, Zalewski and Gaunce is still a work in progress.
Comets have Labate, Archibald, Prust and Bancks...again not a ringing endorsement of skilled talent, so if Caggiula has the skills there may not be much competition at LW |

I dont think its a decision based entirely on turning pro. The guy has invested 3 years into a degree and its a tough decision to walk away from that. Most people know once you leave school, its really hard to go back. I would be willing to bet he wants to go pro, but is more torn about being 1 year shy of a degree and wondering if/how he can manage finishing it while being a rookie professional
(totally speculation here, but those are my ideas. The Canucks can offer him the starters job in Utica, which is the best anyone else would offer him, so I cant see a Vesey situation) |

I totally agree. I think Vancouver has a good shot with him, outside of playing LW with Henrik, all spots are open. I just think as a Senior Cagguila has that freedom to choose and might take a closer look elsewhere, so its less of a slam dunk as the other two in my mind |

I was wrong only once and I still haven't got over it. It was when I said Shink would never be a first line winger - CanuckDon
See there, you're wrong here but not there... you said Shink would never be a first line winger on the canucks, not Stockton or Comets or Flames |

You should spend more time in The Flames blog worrying about your roster. The fact Shink is on your top line is hilarious. Playoffs are a long way away little fella - CanuckDon
I'm a nucks fan and the fact we have no top line is more hilarious. |

it may be possible to distance learn or do the final year in the summers only. Im sure theres options.
The meeting may also address some of that as well. Where JB project him to be and for how long etc |

Lets just put the proper and legitimate story behind Shrink before all these yahoos go nuts.
1. The ONLY and ONLY reason Canuck fans were upset is that he was a draft pick. There is a higher level of emotional attachment to him and a greater want to see him succeed.
2. Thats why we are slow to embrace Sven Baertschi or Granlund. We question them. We look at the GM sideways and wonder what he is up to. Obviously Baertschi has worked out. It just took us longer to come around. Who knows what will be said about Granlund.
3. Calgary Flames fans know 0% about Skrink yet are suddenly experts. Vancouver fans know 0% about Shrink as 99% have never seen him play.
So get over yourselves. No one in Vancouver is upset because we think we lost a trade... it's only we had an investment in the guy who, Benning --- THE ONLY GUY WHO KNOWS ANYTHING --- thought it best too pass on him.
Does everyone on the Red Mile understand now? - Beatle_john
I was never upset. Sven Vey were ahead of him now Rodin Etem Gaunce. Where are we suppose to play him on D? |

There definitely are, I think Torrey Krug from Boston is one of the guys finishing a degree while playing. Its just my guess that being a professional hockey player, particularly a rookie, has some challenges that can be distracting or time consuming. For a guy like Demko who was really focused on the Frozen Four, playing more games and balancing school might be the challenge he is uncertain of. |

Very true…but these guys know they have to strike while the iron is hot. School will always be there…the NHL will not be. |

yes exactly. it was obvious early that JB had no plans for him, or questionable opinion of him. |

Unfortunately I think they will be back. They can both serve as injury coverage until they get injured themselves. |

yes thats true. This opportunity will pass by in mere years. I think its a given that demko will be nhl, so its not like he'll have to worry about paying bills anytime in the next 25 years either. Probably a good idea to go for it. |

yes. I suspect having hammer even a single year would be good on the mentoring front.
Burrows still has a lot of use on PK (1 of the best in nhl we've heard) and his screens are great too. Started scoring more lately as well.
But that hefty contract would make it very very difficult to move. I do believe he is a good team guy too and alwasy an option for sedins as well.
Id say he stays for his final year. Who knows from there....but hes one of those guys thats earned his place in the organization after his playing career. |
