We had this discussion a few days ago. I actually technically agree with you, the only problem is, points get you in to the playoffs, not how you earned the points (unless its in the case of a tie)
So, while i understand your point, it doesnt matter if you earn 94 points by losing 70 games in a shootout and winning 12 or with a winning record.
In my opinion, getting in to the playoffs is more important to most players and GM's

For the mathematically challenged, the Buffalo Sabres have played 81 games thus far, and have won 34 of them.

34 divided by 81 = .420 (rounded up from .4197)

Therefore, the Sabres are NO WHERE CLOSE to the .500 mark, despite desperate fans, players, coaches, and upper management trying to spin it in a positive light to make themselves seem relevant. They probably want a participation trophy too.

Kudos on the 25 point improvement. Seriously. That is a major step forward to becoming a playoff team. With your core youth, that could very easily happen next year.
