I like Gagner as a guy and even as the player he's become over the course of the season. And I'm happy he gets to experience playoff hockey for the first time in 9 years. People early in the season called him lazy. I never thought that. He's just not the smartest player, but along with his skill, he's found a new level of tenacious play since his call up.

That said, I have no interest in the Flyers resigning him. With all our prospects at wing, and the current top 6 locked down, he's just not worth it. Someone will probably offer 2-3 years for 2.5-3 mil or something. And I don't really want the Flyers to go bananas on any wingers in free agency either, personally. I think a stopgap 3C or a RD is what I'd be after.

This is about right.

I mean, if he wanted to stay here for a year at about 1.5 mil, that's one thing.

He'll probably want more money and more term. No thanks.

Stopgap 3C is a must I think.

I don't really know what his market is. He's been a consistent 40-50 point guy in his career. Yet, Arizona was going to buy him out because they couldn't trade him. His points are down this season, but it isn't because he's forgotten how to score. Early on he played like 6 minutes every night on a scrub line. Then he got sent to the AHL. Now he's firmly in the middle 6, but he's not with real scoring linemates and on the PP he's probably misused in the Schenn spot (for a guy with the best hands on the unit, does he ever even touch the puck?).

Yet, the eye test says he's been working his tail off and his skill is still evident. I just don't know. For the price you listed, sure -- if his market is that poor. But they also might want to give his spot to another player in the organization. Like a guy currently in the press box.

How big was that point in the Toronto comeback? That's the reason we don't have to worry about tomorrow. Gotta give it up they came back in that 3rd.
- Just5

it was huge. by the same token, how huge was the point they squandered against CBJ, or the 1/2 pts they lost when they gave up the winning goal with 7 seconds left vs toronto back in january....so many squandered points. it's amazing they've gotten in. tough bunch.

My dream is Frans Nielsen and/or Jason Demers. Two guys who won't break the bank but have crazy value that flies under the radar a bit. I think NYI do what they can to keep Nielsen though. Demers? I think he's a realistic target. He's a RHD (which Hexy admitted to be after) who is essentially everything AMac was sold to be: top competition seeing, shutdown, 2-way, top 4 guy. But, you know, he actually is.

I'd go after Demers. He's 27. Nielsen is 31 and is looking at a Filpulla type deal minimally I think 5 X 5. I'd pass on that.

Then what do you do at 3C? Is Detroit resigning Helm? Id look at that maybe bc its a tier down

"I started slashing the boards," Simmonds said about his bench reaction to Bellemare's goal with 58 seconds left. "I think that's probably my new celebration when we win. It felt unbelievable."

5 years is too many. 3 years would be ideal. His age doesn't worry me too much because his underlying numbers haven't dipped one bit. But that much term for a 32 y.o. is not a turn on for me. Maybe 4 years max. But 5 mil seems too much unless the years came down. Plus Hexy probably prefers someone younger. He's very very good though. He would be like having two Couturiers. But for that contract? Rather have Demers. He's probably my #1 target either way.

I think Helm is a solid player, but he will probably want a slight raise I read to ~3 per. He's played mostly on the wing this season too, I believe. Doesn't really score too much either. Not sure he's the answer for what we need. I haven't really thought about it too much besides the two names I listed tbh.

I love the message this sends to the prospects in the organization. They are going to have to earn their way onto this playoff team. Nothing gets handed to them and theyre not the anointed saviors

So, uh...how's everybody feeling today?

I had to go to the MiL's birthday dinner after the 2nd period, and recorded the 3rd. Didn't get to watch until about 9 last night.

Very frustrating last few games; slow decision making with the puck, bad passing, etc. Maybe they can relax and play their game now that they're in.

I'm feeling good! They are totally playing with house money at this point, so I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy the games.

Obviously nervous about a PP that will be stumbling into playoffs against a powerhouse like Washington though.. Hopefully today their powerplay can net one
