We could have had Stamkos at the draft last year but Murray wouldn't part with Eichel. - SABRES 89
Yeah, I remember u saying that
As soon as Murray said no, Yzerman should've started seeing what other offers were out there
He might not have gotten a guy as good as Eichel back,
But I'm sure he still could've gotten some really good assets back
I doubt they fire Cooper even with Stamkos out and they lose to the Wings, they will say because he's out , it's not Coopers fault. I'm really shocked they have let it get to this point with Stamkos to be honest. - SABRES 89
Cooper is a damn fine coach ............. I don't even think that's debatable.

Like Dreger said today on TSN, " only Stamkos knows where he will play ".
IMO Ekblad was the best player in the draft and thus drafted #1. It was thought to be a crap shoot amongst the next 3 (the Sams and Drai). They are all very similar in that they are all top 6F right now, all have shown glimmers of elite talent. Larkin was the one that fell and if we had taken him #2 GMTM is lying dead in an alley after the draft. Between those three I still take Samson first because he not only has the physical talent, but it looks like he was much more of a cerebral hockey player that would have the greatest chance of taking a further step the other two are incapable of making.
Point is...we got our guy. Just so happens he stinks...you never stunk? - RhinoFan
Just to clarify .......... Drai was NEVER in the mix with the two Sam's. Drai represented a mix of players that were in the tier BELOW Bennet and Reinhart.
1. Stamkos costs nothing but $$, those guys $$ and players
2. Eichel would move to wing - see how he played with O'Reilly at wing the last couple of games
3. Not a rib like you think - a small one, up top, no impact from this
4. Not a blood clot issue like McCormick, this one isn't an issue going forward - turbo044

Draisaitl was drafted 3rd. Bennett 4th. From what I recall Murray really liked Draisaitl too
* Maybe never an offer was presented.
* Maybe there was thoughts at the time of resigning him.
* Maybe he didn't feel like throwing away the season/fanbase at the trade deadline.
After listening to Murray's presser today I gathered a few things...
-He wanted a qb for his defense but doesn't think 8th overall would be enough and likely sees getting a great one as a pipe dream
- He would like to keep pick for the fans but again if he gets a great deal (unlikely) he would consider trading it.
- He knows of GM's he can for sure trade with. (Anaheim? Ottawa? Minnesota?)
- He isn't buying out Moulson (Looks like we're stuck)
- Sounds like Franson isn't going anywhere either...
- Doesn't seem too attached to Girgensons
- Doesn't seem like he wants to really add much on offense in terms of major moves...
- Doesn't see much depth in the FA pool. (Doesn't mean we aren't going after Stamkos but his comments made it seem like we weren't going to have a major shake up which is what signing Stamkos would be)

It was Reinhart or Bennett for Murray. The Kraut was not in the mix ............. not even close. - fastek
According to who? Murray said good things about both Draisaitl and Bennett, but it was apparently unanimously in favor of Reinhart between Murray and the scouts.

All 3 are looking to have pretty similar ceilings - sbroads24

Seems unlikely to me
You've got a lot of "maybes" there sir
Name one player that came down with blood clots and continued without a problem .........
Bye Bye Stamkos ............. - fastek
This is the rib everyone is freaking out about... I've had bigger boogers than that. Ok not really, but you get my point. It's very, very different to McCormick and Dupuis. Both those guys had life threatening, emergency situations. Obviously it's still nothing to shake a stick at and could cause problems if left untreated, but so can an ingrown toenail. People hear blood clot and think heart attack and stroke like what very easily could've happened to McCormick and Dupuis, but the Stamkos thing again, not making light of it, isn't anywhere near as serious as the other 2 guys. If you find a problem on Friday or Saturday, but can wait until Monday for surgery to repair it; it's not a super duper emergency like say having chest pain because you have a clot in your lung would be. I'm not sure I can even think of another hockey player that had the same issue as Stamkos.
Edit: Fleischmann had PE's(clots in his lungs which are way more serious than Stamkos) and he's still playing up to his old standard. Vokoun couldn't come back after his bout with DVT's(clots in his legs again, potentially very, very serious) And Timonen and Dupuis's clotting issues stemmed from injuries. Timonen blocked a shot and Dupuis because of a knee injury. Timonen came back, albeit at the end of his career, so it's impossible to tell if there was any real long term effect. Dupuis retired because he couldn't get it under control, same with Vokoun, but again those guys all had DVT's that turned into PE's. Stamkos is similar only in that he also had a blood clot, but that's where the similarities end. It's like say breaking your ankle because you slipped on some ice, not fun, but not as bad as having your foot ripped off at the ankle by a bear. Both ankle/foot injuries, one is way, way worse than the other.
